Makeup Artist Gratuity

Allison Nicole, on December 10, 2017 at 2:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 1

Hello Lovelies,

So I just booked my hair and makeup artist, and I noticed the salon charged a 15% gratuity on top of the price. Is this the tip, or should I still plan on tipping on the wedding day (and how much)?

Also, the package includes a trial session. Do I tip at this session as well, or is it not necessary?

I want to make sure all the staff is getting their proper tips, as I have been an event technician and know how much tips help and how not getting tipped can be a let down. But I'm also trying not to break the bank as well, if you feel me.

Thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated.

15% charge is a tip. That's like eating at a restaurant, if you add a 15% tip, I am not further obligated to tip on top of that. It's to ensure that the make up artist gets her percentage, because she might not take home 100% of the service price, and/or it goes to travel costs, supplies, and the agency that employs her.
