make-up / hair prices - sticker shock!!!!

I'm in a state of shock! I've been trying to find someone to do my hair and makeup without totally breaking my budget. I just got a quote from someone for $500??????? I was hoping to pay closer to $100 for both hair and makeup. Apparently I'm living in a dream world!

Try finding a local Mary Kay gal. She'll more than likely do it for free or for a small fee. Or if you have a Bare Escentuals store near by they can do your make-up for free also.

I hear you! Do you have any high schools around you that offer cosmotology classes? If yes, sometimes they will do hair, so they get practice for a minimal cost. But I highly suggest having them do it a couple of months before the wedding, then you can request the same person to do it for your wedding if you like it.

    Hope that helps!

    Best Wishes,

I asked my regular salon about prices for my wedding (hair only) and she said" Up dos are $45 and up" I responded..."Yes, but I'm a bride so it'll probably be alot more right?" she replied, "Nope, just depends what ya want!" Ha!

    I'm still in shock.

As the owner of Shear Bliss Salon in Orlando, I can assure you that we do not charge anything more for a bride then our normal client charges. Depending on the style you want - will depend on the money you will have to pay. Some Brides want a style that takes hours to do and some want a style easy and quick to do so there is no hard fast rule or pricing. We often set up champagne or wine and cheese carts for the wedding parties of 5 or more - just to make it a more social and special event, which costs us a little more but we are getting a lot of good word of mouth refferals from doing these small special things.

Some of our 23 stylists do not work on the Saturdays they have to travel to do weddings. This is why you are paying a little more when the stylists comes to you. Since the stylists could have been working at the salon making money she/he has to be compensated for the time it takes to travel to you. Our cosultations are free within our salon so stop in and see us.

It is very pricey, esp if you live in a big city. If you are traveling to a salon, expect higher prices as well. If someone is traveling to you it could be more expensive because they are coming to you, using their own products, and charging you by how many hours they will be working with you & your B-Party. A reasonable priced makeup application would be $60-$75, and updo $60-75 each. I think I paid $75 each, for both hair & makeup at a salon. I charge approx. $60 for a bride to travel for makeup but I am in Detroit-Metro area. HTH!
