So I found a make up artist that I liked after having the trial with her. When I decided to send over the deposit I asked her for a contract and she stated she didn't have any but to trust her word because she would be there. She also informed me her travel fee was 120$ and she's only 30 min from the venue. I mentioned to her that i should've known that before because it's a large travel fee. I'm torn now, she's willing to drop the travel fee to 80 but i'm worried about booking an artist with no contract! any suggestions?

Travel fees should be based on mileage. I would look up with your state current mileage rate is. In Virginia I think it is .58 per mile, so even if she is 30 miles instead of minutes away it would cost me $35 roundtrip. Something is not right she is charging you too much! I would not book her.

Never book any vendor without a contract. If she doesn't provide one, move on.
