Hello All,
I bought this dress (photos 1-4) at David’s Bridal right before they closed due to the pandemic. I am in love with the dress and it seemed to check all the boxes (long sleeved, tulle, flattering, etc.). Obviously the sample was a size too small but, I ordered a size up and once the dress is altered it will fit like photos 2 and 3. However, I felt pressured to buy the dress due to the pandemic and was very sad that my dress is not a ball gown like photo 5. I just feel like I will not feel like a bride unless this dress is turned into a ball gown. I made an appointment with a seamstress but I am worried she will say it can’t be done. Based off of experience, do any of you know if an A-line dress be able to be turned into a ball gown?

Beautiful gown. I feel like that’s an easy fix to transform to a ball gown. From pictures you posted it seem to fit very nicely except not the ballgown effect. I would shop on Amazon or Etsy and purchase at CRINOLINE. It’s various kinds and sizes find the one to give you the volume you desire. Then , see where store located to make sure it reaches and not take forever to come if it is located in China.

I think the dress is gorgeous as is! Doesn’t hurt to ask your seamstress but I could imagine extra material could get expensive

It definitely seems like there is enough skirt material to make it foof out to give a ballroom effect if you wear the proper underskirt. Definitely search Amazon for this, especially if you’re on a budget. Also, make sure you look into and find this before any alterations are made. The hem of your dress will need to be longer in order to accommodate the underskirt. If you have it taken up first then likely the underskirt will show. I definitely am not going for ballroom effect, but you can see from my two pictures the difference an underskirt makes. You can also see how in the store photo it was incredibly long, but with the underskirt it’s not very long at all. (Same shoes in both pictures) Major Dress Alterations 6

What about wearing a petticoat under the dress to add volume?

You can definitely add volume to that gown for a more “fuller/ball gown” look!

Definitely check into a petticoat with added crinoline. You can even get a full hoop if you want some real volume! I wouldn't add too much though - it's beautiful as is.

You just need a crinoline - it's that simple. Promise! Look for one that says ball gown or aline - the fluffy part will hit in different places depending on the style. I wouldn't get hoops if you see one that has them (see #1 below). I would look for one like 6, 10, 12... The poof is up to you... LOL!!
