Mailing invitations

Jessica, on August 22, 2020 at 10:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
We planned on mailing our invitations 8 weeks prior since we’re expecting replies during the holidays. With all the hoopla about the postal service should we mail earlier?

By the beginning of September ballots will be going out and coming in. You would do best to just count back 10 weeks from your wedding, so they arrive by8 weeks out, the usual. If you have a lot of reasonably local people, surrounding towns, You would do well to enter the PO in a town and mail ones for that town. That way they will be sorted right there, and go out for delivery in two days. Often, if you give them to a carrier, or mail them in a box, for the same town, they get picked up and trucked off to a regional sorting center. Then 3-10 days later, go back to the town. First election mail, then Christmas stuff, tough. Anything you can do, like emailing after a few weeks to be sure the invitation arrived, will be wise. Good luck

Definitely mail earlier! We mailed ours 9 weeks out and some of our invites took almost 2 weeks to get to our guest. It took 3-4 days for locals to get invites. Ours were non machined, which I’m sure caused some delay but I couldn’t believe it took so long for everyone to get them.

It definitely couldn't hurt to send them out a little earlier! I'd suggest at least a week or two earlier than normal.

Id definitely send 3-4 weeks earlier just for a cushion and to allow the last minute people to get it to you before the deadline. But I’m pretty sure you’d have to hunt down a couple people anyway.

Definitely! If my judgement of the situation was 100% based on the news, I would think the situation was being slightly overblown, but it is not!
We didn't have any problem with our original save-the-dates being delivered. We sent put them in the mail just before Christmas, and everyone (in 19 states and 4 countries) still had them within about 2 weeks. We sent actually-save-this-date cards, which were the exact same size and shape as the original ones, to the same people, in June and I know of at least three people who never received them.
