Mailing Invitations Sooner

Ingrid, on March 19, 2021 at 11:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

We postponed our Sept 2020 wedding to be August 2021. We sent Change the Date cards immediately after deciding to postpone. Tonight my mom asked me to consider sending our invitations sooner than the standard 8 week mark, mostly because some are making summer plans and could have forgotten to mark their calendars of the Change the Date card.

I'm considering this but just not sure how soon is too soon. I was thinking of sending the invitations at the 10 week mark. I still don't want to send them too early, but still want to give people a little more advance notice.

Would you still keep the RSVP date to be one month out from the wedding date?

Has anyone considered this for their postponed wedding? If so how did it work out?

Personally, I would still send them at the 8-week mark, especially since you sent Change The Date cards. If you send the invitations too soon, you risk people losing them, or people waiting to RSVP (and then forgetting to RSVP) because it's too far in advance, or people replying yes and then later needing to change their RSVP, etc. I think it would be fine to send them 9-10 weeks in advance (especially since it seems like the mail has been slower lately), but I wouldn't recommend sending them any earlier than that.

Unless they need to be sent internationally, stick with the standard 6-8 week time frame. Any sooner and guests will forget or lose them.

Hi Ingrid! I think if you’re having a minimony sending invitations early would work just fine. I’m a planner type so I totally get wanting to get ahead of the ball. A really big issue I encountered was literally weeks before our wedding, the church could not host us due to a sudden change in restrictions. I had just sent my invitations with the church time and location. I wish this situation on no bride or groom. Due to the ever changing rules, may be best to sit tight and send at the standard time. In the meantime, you can spread word of mouth of the date. Hope this helps with your decision ❤️

We postponed our wedding and sent out change the dates and then the date changed again and we didn’t sent out change the dates so I’m sending mine out 12 weeks in advanced and getting them back early due to the vendor needing a headcount a month before.

I wouldn’t do anything more then 10 weeks out. Our wedding is on 4/3/21 & our venue needed the final headcount by 3/5. That being said I mailed the invites mid January with a RSVP of 2/28. That gave me a week to track down the stragglers.

We just sent ours, 10 weeks out. Apparently FH cousins don't like the idea of a no kid wedding so we wanted to get those RSVPs asap in case we had to invite more people to meet our number.

Now is way too early. Stick to your 10 week plan. People have the date already, that is all the information they need when considering their summer plans.

Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions. I'm going to consider no sooner than the 10 week mark.
