Mail in or Online Rsvp?

Mags, on March 30, 2018 at 7:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 23
Looking for the pros and cons of each... So far, Cons of mail, more stationery, more stamps. Cons of online, some people may need help to go on the website and RSVP accordingly. Also, do you think people will perceive the wedding as "casual" with online RSVP?

We’ve been wondering the same thing. It is a formal event but know a lot of our friends would prefer it. Tossed the idea around of doing mail rsvp for some guests and online cards for the younger.

I think that how your invitation is worded is going to set if it is formal or more causal more than an online RSVP. One big con for the online RSVP is that if you have a large amount of guests that aren't techinally savy you will have to help them RSVP.

Yes, I worded the invite quite formal, it is not a black tie affair, but also not a casual one. So I'm hoping that's captures via the invite. And I would say that maybe 5% - 10% of the guests may need help...

We offered both options. We provided RSVP cards (with postage attached), but we also offered the option of RSVPing through our wedding website for those who would rather do it that way.

We are doing an online RSVP for our formal wedding. Meeting with the woman who does invitations at our local stationary shop next week to start designing. It’s just easier for us because we are also asking people to RSVP to the welcome party, their meal choice, and where they’re staying!

My wedding is fairly casual and we are doing online RSVP. For our guests who are not tech savvy, they will be getting my phone number to call me instead. I’m not sending paper RSVPs to anyone.

I thought this would be too much hassle. So we are doing both and the details card gives online rsvp instructions. A dear friend got an invitation for a wedding with a letter press invitation that had no RSVP stamp or instructions to go online. She went online because she's young and savvy, but it was so tacky!

What if she had an official rsvp card that gave that information? We were trying to do it because it’s allows for rsvp to the hosted after party for those guests as well.

I think thats totally fine. It just needs to be clear. We were shocked that this very nice invitation had nothing at all. Just a RSVP with no stamp, only savvy people would check online, and the website was only on the STD and not the invitation. They missed a lot of touch points.

So yes, if you do online make sure the website is apart of the invitation suite.

I will also say my bridal shower is email only and the fam sure is having a field day over it and why isn't there a phone number and blah blah. So it all depends on who you invite.

Yeah I agree 100 percent there needs to be a card or something denoting how to get to it. We would have a normal rsvp card with postage for all the formal guests and older generation. Then a card that was basically the same but with an online direction for the younger generation that we know would be good with that. I would be soooo confused to get something (formal or casual) that didn’t have some sort of rsvp. Our main reason was because of being able to rsvp with multiple events (after party, brunch, day after party, yeah we are party people lol) and because we are the worst at mailing back rsvps.

I support all of your partying! We have a champagne and dessert welcome reception - with a few savory passed light bites plus cheese and meat trays. That's all the extra I'm good for. I don't think I will be up for much the next day!

I did both. Almost no one went online. I’m some cases, people didn’t even notice the website.

We did the same. Several of ours got lost with the recent east coast storms which was annoying, but can we just agree that the whole RSVP process is the worst part of planning?!?!!! You'll have to stalk people down regardless if which you choose, but I liked how customizable the website is and it was nice to add "things to do" for all the OOTG.

I wanted to do online rsvps only but decided against it when my maid of honor couldn't RSVP.
Invitations haven't gone out yet, but I started working on our wedding website and sent it to my BMs for fun. They decided they wanted to RSVP. My maid of honor has three last names. I registered her with First and one of the last names only, but when she tried to RSVP with a different last name, she got the message "invitation not found, please contact the couple".
She threw a fake fit about how I didn't want her in the wedding (😂😂😂😂) but when I told her to RSVP with another last name, it all went through.
Then I decided we'll just deal with mailing them out so that people can write in who's coming or not.

I did a combo for both. Online RSVP for the younger and tech savvy people. The paper RSVP for keep sakes for immediate family and the reminder of people that aren't tech savvy.

We had both options, most people (so far) mailed them back, but people like the wedding party and some friends my age did online.
