Maid vs. Matron of honor in invitations

joysterz, on January 17, 2009 at 1:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

Anyone know the difference between the "maid of honor" vs. "matron of honor"...I'm not sure how to enter it in my invitations...do you have to have single bridesmaids/married ones or does it matter?? Do I need both maid of honor and matron of honor??

A maid of honor is an umarried woman & a matron of honor is a married woman. No you do not need both. You can have anyone you want in your bridal party all single , all married, or some of both. Why would they be listed on your invitations, or are you talking about the programs you hand out at the ceremony? The MOH & BM are just usually the people that sign the actual marriage license that's all. But even that's not written in stone anyone can sign the license.

Exactly matron of honor is just the fact that she is married. What type of invitation are you trying to include them on? I do a lot of boarding pass invitations for client and usually that type of information we leave to the programs? Hope that helps!

Exactly how the other posters put it Matron of Honor is for someone who is Married and Maid of Honor is for someone who is single. I'm honestly having both a Matron and Maid of Honor in my bridal party since my sister is married and my best friend isn't and we're having 2 Best Men since my hubby couldn't decide which of his 2 friends to ask to be the Best Man. I told him ask them both, we can have 2. Usually your Bridal Party is only listed in your Wedding Programs for the Ceremony. I hope this helps you. Congratulations and best wishes.
