Maid or Matron of Honor

Laura , on June 29, 2016 at 1:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

My best friend is currently engaged and getting married before my wedding. So do I ask her to be my maid of honor since she is not married yet or matron of honor since she will be married at my wedding?

She'll be married at the time of the wedding, so I'm thinking matron.

It really doesn't matter what you call it. If she's married when you ask her, say matron. If she's not, maid. Don't ask her until late fall/winter though.

Maid now, Matron on day of. I wouldn't get too hung up on this unless you are having programs printed far in advance. If you plan to print programs though, I would list her as Matron.

I'd ask what she prefers. Some people really don't like "matron".

I used Matron of Honor when I asked because she was engaged and her wedding was before mine.

My MOH is divorced and likes to call herself my 'maid of dishonor'. But that has more to do with our long history of shenanigans and alcohol than her divorced status. I do love that girl!

Technically she'll will be your matron of honor but you could just let her decide which title she prefers. Especially if it's only for programs which most ppl toss.

I said maid as I didn't know matron meant married so yea I don't think it truly matters. She was just happy when I asked.

Matron of honor since she will be married. My sister is my matron of honor since she is married and my best friend is my maid of honor because she is not married.

Whichever you want. We went with maid of honor even though my friend had been married 3 years. You just see maid of honor on more things and people are more used to it and honestly she didn't love the term "matron" when she was so young. So who cares? We went we maid. Didn't even really make a difference because it was only something we said verbally and the only place it was in writing was on our website once and on her thank you card.

I hate the word matron, so my best friend was my maid of honor even though she's been married for 22 years.

I asked my cousin which she prefers to be called... and she said matron seems old and angry sounding, so we are still calling her maid!

Since she will be married when you get married I would say matron. My grandma got remarried and asked my mom to be her matron of honor and me to be her maid of honor. It was a sweet sentiment to have both.
