Maid of honour speak

Mary, on August 20, 2019 at 8:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 5

Hey All, I just wanted some advice on how to tell my sister who is my maid of honour she is "NOT" to do a wedding speech. She is the type of person who wants to be the Center of attention, and this is her only way to get it. My fiancé and I are worried she is going to upstage the wedding. She has already mentioned she might be doing a costume change.😬😬

Just tell her that one of you is giving a speech and that's it. Also inform the DJ. Maybe you could have her give one at the rehearsal dinner to keep the peace.

I already told my dj that NO ONE is to be given a microphone, under any circumstances. I have a similar concern about the grooms mother attempting a speech.

I totally understand. I had the same problem with my dad so I sat down with him and told him NO speeches. I also told my DJ so my dad wouldn’t ask him for the microphone. I simply said that it was MY day and I didn’t want him to go on and on and try to upstage everything because it wasn’t appropriate. He was a little hurt but I didn’t care. I didn’t want that for m e and my FH. Just talk to her and be honest.

Yep - if you want to be non-confrontational about it, just have speeches at the rehearsal dinner only, and limit time if you feel you need to.

Tell her that there aren't going to be speeches at the wedding. I agree that maybe let her do a speech during the rehearsal dinner.
