Maid of honors?

Justine , on February 19, 2018 at 3:48 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16
Hey guys! I just got engaged and I have a lot of thoughts running through my head now. I started to think about who my bridal party would include and I have 2 best friends but i dont know who I would choose to be my maid of honor. How did you guys choose and do you think it would be OK to have 2 maid of honors?

I have a matron and maid of honor. It's totally fine!!! And they can help each other out with their duties. It's been great so far. They are wearing different dresses than the rest of the bridesmaids to make them stand out.

My two best friends are both going to be my maids of honor. They were both thrilled about it. I've been best friends with them for about the same amount of time and they both know everything about me. They're even talking about writing a speech together instead of each of them doing one. And one lives out of state so they're splitting tasks between themselves and we're video chatting when we all get the time. I think it's totally up to you. It's your wedding. Do what makes you happy.

    First off, congratulations!!!!!

Second, of course it's fine! I'm having 2 bridesmaids and a matron and maid of honor. My sister was going to be my only maid of honor but then she got married so I had the perfect excuse to bump my best friend up and have two titles lol.

Thank you for the advice! What is the difference between a matron of honor and the maid of honor? I really like the different dress idea!

No worries! We all were at one point. That's why we have this resource. Matron is typically married and maid typically isn't.

Don't choose anyone for your wedding party yet. You have THREE years to your wedding. Relationships, even best friend relationships, can change within that time.

Wait to ask these people until 6-8 months before your wedding. You never know how arelationship may change and no matter how you feel about these people, you don't want to end up in a situation where something changes and you are feeling stuck with a choice you no longer like.

That being said, I had 2 MOHs... my sister and my best friend. The only thing I would say is to make sure they know that their job is ONLY to buy the dress and show up and be supportive. My sister got WAY involved and planned a huge, elaborate shower - which was wonderful but made my friend feel she was not doing enough. They both lived far from me on opposite ends of the county and so I had to be sure my friend did not feel like I was upset that my sister was going a little above and beyond as can be her style. That way they could both enjoy themselves and feel honored instead of stressed.
