Maid of honor vs matron of honor

Hope, on September 17, 2020 at 9:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Hi guys!
I’m going to have 2 matron of honor/maid of honors. One of my best friends, whose married, is going to be my matron of honor. I have another best friend, who is a widow. My question is, what is the etiquette for a widow? Maid of honor or matron of honor? I’ve been going back and forth on this since I got engaged in November!!

Anyone that has ever been married before, even if widowed or divorced, is considered a matron.

I would ask her for her preference. I'd rather go by maid than matron because I just hate the word matron.

I'd just ask your friend what she prefers!

I second this. I was married and still listed as a maid of honor in my sister's wedding (My preference; there's too much inherent sexism in titles for women. Men get to be Best Men no matter if they are married or not!). In the end, the titles don't really matter, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Totally agree with others - ask her what she prefers! My MOH is married, but I asked her what she’d prefer. We went with Maid of Honor. Just let her know you’re fine with either and want her to use whatever title she feels more comfortable with.
