Maid of Honor Help!

Brenda, on July 28, 2019 at 10:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
My best friend is getting married and asked me to be her maid of honor which I happily accepted. At the time I was not pregnant and my due date is 1 month before the wedding. Of course I want to be there for her but at this time I’m nervous that there might be reasons beyond my control that will not allow me to be there for her. She also has a strict no child policy for her wedding and already told me I cannot bring my newborn to her wedding. With a baby being 4 weeks old l does any one have any suggestions about going on with this wedding?

Newborns and nursing babies are always the exception to this rule.

It’s up to you but I think the health of you & your baby are more important so I would back out of MOH to be a guest just in case you can’t attend the wedding and to not be responsible for any duties/parties (you can volunteer to show up early and help decorate for her shower if you’re feeling up to it).

I would back out. Even if you’re due a month before, there are still OBs that let you go up to 2 weeks past your due date before they’ll induce you so at that point, you’d have a 2 week old and have to leave him/her for several hours. At best you’ll have a 4-6 week old and still be away for hours. That’s not really feasible with a newborn.

First and foremost babes in arms is generally the exception to this rule so immediately I think your friend is being ridiculous. Also due dates are estimates, you could be only be two weeks postpartum at that point, you might not be up to going out depending on what happens during birth or after birth.
I'd back out of being maid of honor for your own well being, it stinks but I think it's safer to prioritize yourself in this situation.

Oh wow. I'd probably back out. I cant think you'll want to leave the baby, and idk that a baby that young should be out and about with that many people just yet. (I'm not a physician or a parent, but I do think there are some medically beneficial guidelines on this.)
If you have a regular birth, you're gonna want at least a week or two to recover. And longer if you have a c section. There's a really good chance you won't be feeling like standing up next to the bride for that long, let alone doing bridal party things.

I don't think your friend is being very understanding here. Your baby will literally need you, so I think backing out would be justified!

Is it your first child? Only reason I ask is because many times the first is even late! So it could be less than a month before her wedding you have a baby. Idk that's tough. I understand she's your best friend but having a baby is another big deal having to take care of a human life, especially if it's your first is nerve-wracking also. If she doesn't change her mind about bringing the baby, I would honestly back out. Agree with everything Mandi brought up also! You might not even feel up to standing up there. I personally wouldn't bring my newborn baby out with that many people either.

That's kind of cold of your friend to say that, no offense of course. A baby is more important than anyone's wedding vision, period. That being said, I also would not want my baby around that many people being newly born, and I feel like being an MOH in that advanced stage of pregnancy could be uncomfortable for you, I don't have children but can imagine it would be! I would probably step aside, but offer your support and help to her if she wants it!

If you end up with a c-section you aren’t even going to be capable of standing yet. You are still going to be bleeding and your boobs are going to leak. Back out now.
