Maggie Sottero Dress Color Advice

Stephanie, on June 23, 2017 at 2:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

I'm ordering a Maggie Sottero wedding dress that's lace over tulle, but I'm unsure if whether to do ivory lace over ivory tulle, or ivory lace over a light gold tulle.

I'm afraid of the light gold not looking bridal enough, but of the all ivory looking flat. Are there any Maggie brides that can post pictures of their dresses with the colors?

Thanks!

(Dress pictured is the one I'm ordering, shown in Ivory/Light Gold. I'm just worried the gold will look darker in person)

I have one! light gold with ivory lace over. I don't have a picture of me in it at the moment but can go take a picture so you can see the contrast. Give me a few mins. The gold is suuuuper light. One thing I did do is mine has piping along the neckline (it's the Jocelyn) and it's gold, not ivory. It was too close to my skin tone for me so I had them put ivory mesh over it (same as used to connect the lace) and it made a significant difference. Okay, be back in a min with a pic. I picked this one because I had the same concerns as you.

Sorry, not taking the whole dress out. FH is home and I didn't want him to accidentally walk in and see it. For perspective, the garment bag it's in is a true white. The big reason I wanted the light gold was I worried that you wouldn't be able to see the contrast of the lace in the ivory/ivory. The one I tried on was ivory/ivory and I loved the lace but from a distance they blended together.

I have a Maggie dress too. The dress I tried on was ivory with a gold overlay. I loved it; it was a lot darker than traditional white or ivory with the overlay. But my mom really wanted me to wear the ivory with an ivory overlay (she didn't care for the gold and thought it was too dark.

I got the one my mom preferred. It hasn't come in yet... I really hope I like it!

I suggest you go the the salon and I try any gown on in that color just to see what the color looks like on you. You may not like the way the gold looks on you.

    @Stephanie G.

My dress is (going to be) Emma. It comes in three colors: light gold, ivory, and white. They had the light gold for me to try on in the store and I loved it! But, I'm going to actually get it in white. I think the white will be a better contrast to my wicked dark colors and jewelry (black, purple, and grey).

*pictured is me in the light gold, the light gold from the site, and the white I want from the site.

I think the lace will pop more over the gold. I definitely think you should try both on and see which you like better!

What color did you try on and what were your thoughts on that? IMO, light gold/blush/etc. don't look any less bridal than a white or an ivory would. Having a different color underlay will really highlight the lace detail, where having the same colors will blend everything together more. It's whatever you prefer, but I would suggest going back to the bridal shop and seeing if they have an example of each for you to look at in person.

I love my ivory over light gold. Really makes the detailing pop.

I agree with PPs that the ivory over light gold highlights the lace detail more. I also think it gave my dress a more vintage-y look, which I was into. I also second trying the color combos on and seeing how it looks with your skin and undertones. I really liked the ivory/light gold on my Maggie, but the ivory/antique mist (blush) didn't do it for me.

I almost purchased an ivory over light gold Rebecca Ingram (Allison was the name I think?) I had tried on the ivory too and the details got lost. I was devastated that they didn't have the dress I ended up buying from a different designer in light gold (I ended up with Champagne.) It's definitely necessary to try both colors on, but the ivory over light gold was a gorgeous color and especially flattering if you look good in yellow. And unmistakably bridal.

My dress is Maggie and I went with the light gold- though it's really more like a champagne color. With the ivory underlay, it didn't show the detail of the lace unless you were looking really closely.

My dress is not a Maggie, but it is ivory lace over light gold. The light gold is dark-ish, but with the ivory over the top, the dress as a whole looks plenty bridal. The contrast of the ivory with the light gold also really makes the details in the lace pop, which I love. I'd say go look at some in person and see what you prefer.

Mine isnt Maggie, but it is what you were describing. It is not the best light, but I tried my dress on this morning to see it with a new belt. it's ivory lace Over champagne. I chose it because it makes the lace pop out nicely.

I'm a Maggie bride, and my dress is champagne and gold and it's amazing and works so well. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the organza and he bodice are champagne, and the skirt has a gold lining.

Hi guys! So the problem is that the one in ivory/light gold is far too small for me to try on. I tried on the ivory/ivory, and I did look kind of flat. I ultimately ordered the ivory/light gold, but I'm not going to lie, I'm still a little worried it's going to look more like a gold dress than that bridal color I was going for. I just couldn't justify going with the all ivory when you lost so much of the lace detail though.

I wore a Maggie dress in ivory/light gold and I think the color was perfection. Just enough contrast for all the detail to show.

I don't think the color looked dark or super gold at all.

Mine's not Maggie but it's champagne with lace appliqué over it. The darker color under will make the lace pop. I didn't think I'd like it but when I tried it on I loved it

Pretty! I have a Maggie sottero and it's ivory, which looks white to me. I tried on a "light gold" dress and to me it looks like champagne, so if you did light gold with white (ivory) lace on top, I think it absolutely would look bridal Smiley smile
