Low Stress Casual Reception?

Alyssa, on March 10, 2021 at 7:35 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
Hello! After a long venue search I finally settled on a place for a ceremony and reception together. But due to covid reasons that venue isn’t going to work anymore (planning for august 2022, but postponements have already affected 2022 dates).
I really want a pretty ceremony so I am planning on doing an intimate family ceremony inside a conservatory and doing a big reception at a later date.
However, I am so over venue searching. I already did it once and thought I was done, and I don’t want to keep doing it. I have a super detailed and organized Pinterest board full of my original ideas but now I just don’t care about any of it as much, as long as we have our good ceremony.
Is anyone doing a casual reception?? I still want 100+ people but I don’t want to have to worry about every little thing at DIY venues and don’t like the prices of the all inclusive venues. A casual tent wedding at a campground or park sounds amazing, but doing all of the decorations and food ourselves sounds like a lot to deal with. If you’re doing a more relaxed reception, how are you doing it??

Have your favorite local restaurant drop off catering. Let guests mingle. It's pretty common to do that.

Found a venue that included tables and chairs. Bought tableclothes online and having plants as centerpieces. We’re having BBQ catered and an open bar and a DJ. Overall it’ll be pretty laid back.

We picked a venue where the decor was mostly the view. If you want the casual tent wedding, find a location where you don't need to worry a lot about decor, because everyone will like the view.

Also... weddings don't have to be SUPER decorated - decor should reflect the couple and their taste. DH and I kept the centerpieces to fake flowers in our colors, put into 'baseball' bases, as our theme was our favorite team. Our venue was on the Hudson River, so we had the sunset and Jersey City and the Statue of Liberty in the background.

Keep in mind that the only things required at a wedding are the following:

    1. A couple

    2. A license/officiant

    3. Food for any guests

Everything after that is optional/gravy/for fun.

My friend simply went had a beach wedding, got everyone to bring a plate and picnic mats, and had a very large gathering of people all having a picnic. It was low stress for her and fun for everyone else. I don't know if they had a back up plan in case it rained, which could've been a problem.
