Low country boil for rehearsal dinner

nolegirl, on October 17, 2017 at 7:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 47

I would love to have a low country boil style dinner catered for our rehearsal dinner. But my sister (also MOH) said it is not nice enough and we need to have a more formal dinner. What do y'all think? Would you be excited to have a low country boil for dinner or think we needed something nicer?

You don't need the dinner to be formal. You just need food. I think it sounds fun!

I love low country boil, but make sure you have some chicken in case you have some seafood haters in your group.

As long as everyone likes seafood, this sounds awesome for a RD.

We are from MD and my cousin did a crab feast for her RD. I think a low country boil, as long as you have enough food and alternatives for people who don't eat seafood or meat, is totally fine.

That sounds like so much fun! Doesn't need to be fancy! Our friends did pizza and beer

A low country boil is delicious and completely fine for a RD. It doesn't have to be fancy. Went to one with just that actually and it turned out great.

A low country boil can be a variety of shrimp, crab, potatoes, corn, crawfish, etc. (very much a southern thing). But thank you, it is a good idea to have some alternatives in case some people don't like seafood!

I like the idea of a more casual rehearsal dinner so you can relax with your wedding party and family before all the stress of the big day!

I love these boils, though we usually throw some sliced sausage into the mix.

For the crab feast my cousin had fried chicken, a few salads, and a ton of sides to accompany the crabs. Really it turned out great. I'm sure your boil will be awesome

Just be sure that your rehearsal dinner guests know it's casual and could be messy so no one ruins good clothes.

Check for allergies. Remember that throwing in some chicken or sausage is not enough for allergies. All that does is cross contaminate. If someone is allergic to seafood make sure your venue or whomever is cooking knows about it and is able to completely separate the chicken /sausage. They will also needs sides cooked separately.

I love low country boils! I went to an RD once that had one and I was excited about it...but turns out it was self-catered and gross. Generally, though, if it's catered and well executed I think it's fine for an RD.

FH and I were planning a shrimp boil for our wedding reception, but now we are kind of leaning towards eloping early and not having the party. All that to say, I love a good boil!

Love it!! We're probably doing pizza for ours. Doesn't have to be a formal thing at all!

I love a good low country boil. Go for it! Just make sure (like others said) to have safe alternatives for any dietary restrictions. Shrimp/seafood allergies can be deadly.

I'm also considering doing something more casual for our rehearsal dinner. Who wants to eat the same type of formal dinner food two nights in a row? As a vegetarian I echo having alternatives for any dietary restrictions!
