Low budget weddings, what did you do? Ideas please

I have been going back and forth, I am a very thrifty person and cannot see spending more than 5k on everything, even that hurts me a little. lol We would probably do a wedding with immediate family only and then later a reception... as many as 110 could be coming ( I don't expect that many as about 1/3 or them will be OOT) I have thought about a potluck, camping with family and friends for a night and providing smores/ hotdogs/ chips ect.

What did you do to save money and still enjoy your big day. I had a venue and everything kind of fell apart so I am starting from scratch.... I fully believe you dont have to spend a million to make it look like a million.

I think it fully comes down to what you want and what your wedding expectations are. What are your must have or dream list? There are lots of ways to decrease cost but you have to have some ideas of what you want. For our wedding we are shelling out 13K ( which is double your budget but we have about 180 guests, open bar and plated dinner) weddings in our area average about 30K. Our venue is off season, ceremony reception space included. I've scouted out DIY options to cut my budget more from the above list and if I eliminated some of my wants I could probably spend much less (shooting to decrease the cost to add to our honeymoon!). A friend as your officiant can cut a few hundred dollars off. Dress resale or Bridal dress sales will cut cost. A photographer building their portfolio will cost significantly less (one of my biggest expenses).
