When my husband and I went to pre-marital counseling our it was recommended that we do research on love languages, determine which two languages we identify with, discuss them with one another, and rate each other on how well we are satisfying them on a weekly basis. For about 3 months my husband and I rated one another and found that it made us more cognitive of one another's needs instead of what we thought each other needed. Overall, we had a great experience with the love languages and although we don't rate each other anymore, we are still very intuned to one another.

In your marriage do you and your spouse believe in the 5 love languages? Why or why not?

We did the love languages and personality assessments in our premarital counseling with our Pastor. Except he gave us questionnaires and figured out our results. Then he explained what each one meant, how our personalities affect our love languages and how we receive / give love, etc. It was so much fun, and we learned a lot! I definitely recommend premarital counseling to EVERYONE!

Anyways, we found out that his love languages are: physical touch and quality time, and my love languages are: acts of service and quality time.

Yes we do. My fiance's love languages are definitely touch and time. Mine are words and acts. Understanding this makes our relationship so much better. When we started dating, we were 14 and loved each other the way we wanted to be loved; but growing up together, we realized that we are different and I'm happy we acknowledged that. Smiley smile

This is great! I'm so glad you shared! My fiancé and I before we were engaged went on the website and took the quiz. Unsurprisingly we were total opposites! I have noticed that he will express love in the language HE speaks (acts), rather than in my own (touch), and I will do the same with him. I didn't know about rating each other. I'll have to look into that so maybe we can give it a try. his pastor is walking us through premarital counseling and we did Prepare/Enrich and he gave us the Getting Ready for Marriage workbook by Jerry Hardin and Dianne Sloan as well.
