Louisiana Theme

Valency, on August 21, 2009 at 12:08 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I would like to have a Louisiana theme.

Could somebody give me some advice.? This may sound strange but I'd like something between a New Orleans, Madi Gras, True Blood, cajun and creole food and festivities. with Jazz and cajun music too. Anybody got any ideas how to pull this together?

    Music - Zydeco

Food - Crawfish, Beignets, Jambalaya, sweet potatoes/sweet potatoe pie (sweet potato is Louisiana's state vegetable), okra, red beans and rice,

Drinks - Hurricanes, sweet tea, Cafe du Monde coffee, true blood (go with AB negative. it's the good stuff!)

    Decor - masks, beads,

Hope that gives you a jumping off point.

    Best Wishes

I've seen weddings that use really pretty mardi gras masks that match the wedding colors. The cafe du monde coffee is chickory coffee, in case you wanted to get it from somewhere else. Crawfish is a must. As far as music I'd say check out people who played jazzfest in the past few years and see what you want....New Orleans is FULL of good food & music. Make sure you go with a caterer that knows you are going cajun/creole and I would do a tasting before booking with them. As someone who just moved back to DC after 5 years in New Orleans many of the imitators just don'tcut it. Oh and what about beads for your favors? Or you could enter the reception second line style. And I agree with the drink selections above.

Definitely need to have beignets and lots of beads! crawfish and jambalaya are good choices as well, but also remember that louisiana is in the south so any southern comfort foods in addition to those regional dishes will work. Instead of a large wedding cake you could get smaller kings cakes for each table: http://www.kingcakesonline.com/history.asp There are a ton of things you can do with this theme, great choice!

I thank you so much. You made my day. I can just taste all the delicious foods. And I'll make sure to include the True Blood as a wine.

My future hubby is from New Orleans, and a tad but of a warning, if you do find some one or someplace that does REAL cajun cooking, it will be HOT. I mentioned a mardi gras theme and he said we should have strippers and girls walking around topless..... were having a PNW Fall theme now.

(He moved up here to washington after hurricane Katrina)

Good Luck with your wedding, hope its fun! And also congrats!

Hire a Zydeco music band, get you caterer to make done south Louisiana Cuisine, definitely have an open bar!! Feature Hurricanes as your special drink. You could boil crawfish, have Mardi Gras beads hanging, I'm not sure about the True Blood part, maybe hang vampire teeth from the beads?? Or order cans of True Blood of Amazon, I'm sure you can find them somewhere, lol.. Hope that helps!!
