Lost too much weight for my dress

Sara, on March 9, 2021 at 9:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I recently posted about my dress. I lost about 30lbs and my dress can be altered small enough BUT it will cost $450 just for the bodice and with the bustle and hemming it will be $800 total and I was warned losing more weight will cause it to not be able to be altered. The other issue is I'm not done losing weight and still have another 10-15 to go and I'm on track to lose it. I don't want to stop for 6 months, I'm worried I won't be motivated to lose it anymore. So I am currently maintaining weight for now while I figure out what to do. I have looked through still white and other sites and cannot find a dress I like or in my size.

I only have less than 6 months so time is ticking! I am going to call the salon I got my dress from to see if it's possible to get a different size and swap out. But I doubt it because when I bought it I literally signed contracts saying I couldn't return for any reason. But this was pre-covid so maybe they will be more lenient? I'm hoping so otherwise I don't know what I will do.
Also I guess the plus size is if I do lose too much weight before my first official fitting I can just eat cake for a week and gain it back 😂Also my alternative thought is maybe I can save the skirt portion and try to find someone to make a bodice that fits? I will post below the first time I got my dress to last fridays fitting.Lost too much weight for my dress 1

Congratulations on the weight-loss and healthier lifestyle! That is amazing! Tbh, if I were in your situation, I would keep losing the weight and find a new dress. Getting motivated to adopt a new lifestyle is sooooo difficult. I am afraid if you quit now you will slide back into old habits and never reach your goal. You’ve put in too much hard work to quit now! Meeting your health and fitness goals will continue to serve you for a lifetime... your dress is only for one day.

I agree! If you're in a weight loss groove, don't stop! I would keep that dress for now, but it seems like it will probably cost as much as a new dress in alterations. If I were you, I would buy a new dress! Don't alter the dress you have and just sell it after the wedding.

Those are exact thoughts! I have tried for YEARS to quit the bad habits and I would to slip back. The issue I am having is my mom picked up a side job so that I could get this $2k dress and I know selling it, I won't get the money back. I'm just so frustrated

I have thought of that, but I know I won't get the money back even though it isn't altered. I just feel so guilty that my mom spent money I knew she didn't have for a dress that won't fit. I feel awful that I chose this time to lose weight but I honestly wasn't thinking about it!

I totally understand the financial loss would be disappointing. However, I guarantee if given the choice, your mother would much rather have you healthy for life than wear a dress for a few hours.

I totally agree. It sucks about the money, but adopting a healthier lifestyle is so much more important. Keep up the good work, you look great!
