Lost Stone/ring Insurance?

Rebecca, on August 5, 2019 at 1:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I looked down at my ring this morning to discover one of the side stones (aquamarine) was missing. Definitely not a good start to the day 🙄. I searched the entire house with no luck (I know it was there last night and hadn’t gone anywhere expect outside to let the dog out). At this point, I figure we’ll just have to replace the missing stone.

That being said, does anybody have experience having lost stones replaced with jewelry insurance? My FH opted for no appraisal or insurance when he bought the ring. He proposed about a month ago and the jeweler has a “too bad” attitude about the stone falling out so soon. FH also got a matching band with multiple small stones in it and I’m already nervous about something happening!

I have insurance thru Jewelers Mutual and they’ve fixed my ring when the band cracked. They also will completely replace it if I ever lose it.

We insured my ring through Statefarm. When I lost a stone they replaced it at no cost.
I'm not sure the luck you're gonna have getting insurance after the fact and trying to try it replaced. Did you get an appraisal even if you didn't get insurance?

You'll need an appraisal done before you can get insurance. Did u have one done when the ring was purchased?

I would definitely insure it with your homeowners insurance. You’ll want to make sure it covers a lost stone/damage. My fiancé fortunately purchased coverage from the jeweler. I’ve used it twice already (I’m a klutz!).

Could it be considered a manufacturer's defect? Is your ring still under any kind of warranty?

My ring was purchased from a jewelry store chain. They have a fantastic warranty/insurance that states as long as I come in at least once a year for an inspection they will cover any issue with my ring. A similar thing happened to me where I lost one of my small diamonds and they replaced it, cleaned and shined the whole ring and I looked even better than the day FH proposed.

I wish! He ordered it online through Allurez and they only cover resizing. They’ve been nothing but a pain the whole time he dealt with them 🙄
