Losing weight and dress alterations

Rebecca , on September 3, 2019 at 11:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
My so and I are on the path to losing weight for our day and are both about half way to our goal, I already have my dress but need the length altered to allow for my three inch heels. When should I get in for alterations? I know it’s a simple alteration I’m just afraid losing the last 25 pounds will make it fit different and change how much the need to add to the length, but I don’t want to wait last minute and have the alterations rushed. My date is June 3 2020 any suggestions?

Wait until 8 weeks before your wedding.

For reference - My wedding was July 27, 2018. I had my first alterations appointment 9 weeks before my wedding and got it taken in and a bra sewn into it. Then I had another appointment 3 weeks before the wedding, I had lost more weight so it was taken in again. It was done on the spot so I took the dress home at that point. Luckily where I got my dress from alterations were included so I didn't need to pay for it to be taken in twice

You wouldn’t get it altered any time soon even if you weren’t losing weight. Alterations start at 6-8 weeks fron your wedding date. You can shop around for a good seamstress before that though if you’re not using the one at the salon.

Alterations can take up to three months, so I’d reach out early April and explain that your weight is fluctuating and ask how long they think alterations will take based on your gown and current weight.

I'm getting married June 6, 2020. I'm going to have my first alterations end of feb early March. Will get my Bridal portrait done in late April, early May. 💐

I would start looking around March so then you will be a lot closer to your goal weight. I started my alterations in May for my September wedding. I have lost about 60 lbs since ordering my dress so she did have to take a good bit in on the top. You will also normally have at least 3 fittings.
