Losing 100 pounds for wedding

Bridget, on May 27, 2020 at 6:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 27
This is crazy I’m writing this but super excited for my health. I am on a program for me to lose 100 pounds by April 2021. I started May 5th 2020 and three ish weeks in I’m already 13 pounds down. I cut out everything bad cold turkey and I’m losing weight like crazy, Which is great!! I feel so much better and starting to look a little better. I am (hopefully) going to get my wedding dress here June 13th. I am wanting to know if anyone has got a wedding dress and set to lose quite a bit of weight afterwords. I’m really nervous to get something too small but I don’t want to get something too big where it’s going to ruin the shape of the dress. I’m working my butt of now to try to get to 20 pounds so it’s not such a stretch. I heard from the lady that’s going to help me getting a dress that 25 pounds lost is a dress size in (wedding dress size) What did you do when you got the dress? Should I order one size or two sizes down since I’m set to be a 14 if I lose the full 100. I’m thinking of ordering a size 16 just in case if I don’t.. I need your experience and advice!! Smiley smile thank you

Congratulations on making your health a priority first. It's hard but so worth it (I had lost 158 and put 52 back on, so I'm working hard at it too!!)

Remember wedding dress sizes are not the same as standard dress size. You know yourself better than any of us do, so be honest with yourself and follow your gut. My grandma was a professional seamstress and used to complain about having to find material to fill in when people overestimated their loss, but she was just as frustrated with those that underestimated it...
With that said, I would order 2 sizes larger than my expectation. If you have curves, they might not stick to a universal thinning, so, in my case, I still have a lot of thigh and butt with a much smaller midsection and chest/back. I don't need the hip area taken in at all but the bodice needs help 😂
Good luck to you, and congratulations, again, on this step in your journey! You can do it!!!

When I got my dress, the store told me that I could lose up to 30 pounds without the dress being too big to alter to fit well. I feel it’s always safer to go a size up because it is much easier to take a dress in than to lose weight if it’s too small. Congratulations on committing to your health! 😊

Thank you so much for responding. Order two sizes larger? This program I’m on I am paying for so I’m definitely not going to go off the plan. I just hit the point where I need to do something for my health and I’m super serious about it. Things are going well. No plan to stop. I have more thigh weight as well. But since my last child my stomach has gotten bigger.

Thank you for your help! I’m a 20 now would you recommend going down just one size then instead of two?

You know yourself and your goals, trust your instincts! Just remember it will not likely be a uniform loss across all body parts 😉 we tend to have areas that lose faster (chest) and slower (hips).

You're going to do great! You've got this! Trust your gut!! ::hugs::

Hello, congratulations on your hard work. I always recommend actually going with a bigger size. As someone who lost 80lbs during looking for a dress then gained 60 back when I got my dress and since lost 40lbs again I reccomend going bigger. It is easier to take in a dress then let it out. It does not mean you need to go huge just try to go bigger just incase. My pant size is 12-13 and my dress size is about a 16 but when I ordered the 18 was snug so I got a 20 because I was bigger then.

I too am trying to lose the 100 pounds before my wedding. I lose 120 but I gain some if that back after my surgery last year. I was so sad about gaining it back. I am getting my dress made because i didn't feel comfortable going out to but a dress. Which I think I spent less than I thought I would. Now for you if you feel like buying a dress thats to big you can but after you lose the 100 pounds you going to need to get its taken up to fit you. That is better than buying something too small you don't want to be wear weeks away from the wedding and you don't have a dress or need to replace a dress best wishes to you

When you find the one, talk to the salon about sizing, I started losI got weight in January 2019. When I bought my dress I had lost 38 pounds when I bought my dress. I thought for sure I’d lose at least 20 more by March for fitting. It was not quite 10. The salon suggested getting the dress where it fit boobs (because of style) and said let out the waist. When I went to fitting it needed to be let out. Unfortunately with Covid I’m not sure if it will fit as I’m trying not to gain 20 pounds my point is, don’t underestimate. Wait until you lose some more. Or ask salon if you add or corset how much it will giv up or down.

Thank you so much. That makes sense! I was thinking about getting a corset so it is more adjustable...and it stays on better too! ❤️

Congratulations!! This is such a huge thing for your health and just your day-to-day life!

I think it depends on the dress style you want. A ballgown is more forgiving than a mermaid silhouette, so I'd say you can size down more in a ballgown than a mermaid.

I was thinking about going to a A line or ballgown dress. I won’t go with anything form fitting! Definitely I think so too. Thank you for the advice! ❤️

Chinese food is very good. I kinda miss food especially pizza, but my eye is on the little wedding dress prize! Haha 😍

Congratulations on your weight loss! That is awesome.

As far as your sizing questions, I would talk to your bridal consultant when you go dress shopping. They will be able to assist you in ordering the correct size. Good luck with the rest of your weight loss journey! And have fun dress shopping Smiley shame

Congratulations on your weight loss! I'm also on a weight loss journey and am planning on losing around 50 lbs by the wedding next October. I'm a 18/20 currently and purchased my dress in March. The woman helping me was awesome! I told her that I was losing weight and what I wanted to be by next October and she showed me the measurements of each dress size. When I tried on the sample dress, it was a size 22 and just a smidge snug in my back but zipped. I ordered down to a size 20, which I believe is street size 16. She told me from there, if I lose more weight, I could take in the particular dress 2 more sizes down without it hurting the shape of the dress. I did go with a ballgown style, which is easier to alter. More fitted is harder. She was honest with me though and recommend to stick with just one size down compared to two, just in case!

When going in, make sure you let them know you are currently losing weight and what you plan to do. If you find the dress you love, ask to see what the measurements are for each size dress as well. That really helped!

Wedding dresses can be altered down up to two sizes without losing their shape (typically). But most companies also run large size wise. I would get measured and compare against your designers size chart and then maybe go down from there as low as you are comfortable.
