Looking for ideas on Food for a lunch reception.

A.Magill.Since.May, on March 14, 2017 at 3:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Our reception will be from like noon to 4:30. We want to do lunch food, but I can't think of what is both lunch and "wedding" appropriate.

I think dinner and lunch foods are pretty interchangable! Sandwiches are lunchy but I don't think wedding appropriate. I think it's a good idea to offer some lighter foods though like salads, veggies, etc.

We do a lot of weddings with an 11:30 ceremony and a noon start; the menus are pretty much the same as dinner but a bit less; hors with drinks, salad, choice of chicken and something else, and dessert. You might not do a giant cocktail hour with stations, but people will be hungry for a lunch reception, no mistake about it.

If you aren't huge on the idea of a seated meal for a lunch reception--Maybe do stations? It seems more casual and gives a variety of food choices

I was planning on cocktail hour being (wayy less than an hour because it's the same venue) but being fruit and veggie trays, and cheese and cracker trays with mimosas and the open bar.

I went to an 11 a.m. wedding with lunch around 12:30....and I'm pretty sure it was a standard wedding "dinner" with choice of chicken or beef. Everything about it felt exactly like an evening wedding except that it was light outside. When I got the invitation, I thought it was weird. But it was a ton of fun and wasn't weird at all in person.

People will be providing you with generous cash gifts. The meal should make them feel appreciated. Sandwiches would not make me feel particularly appreciated.

I was thinking about doing seated or a buffet, stations seems like a lot of organizational work and possibly a lot to go wrong, especially with the lines!

My brother had a 11:00 wedding and lunch reception. They opted for the BBQ option the venue provided. The food was excellent, and plentiful - I think that's what makes or breaks the reception, not necessarily what you serve.

Do you have a caterer yet? Some caterers have their own "favourite" offerings and may have some good menu ideas!

You can do a sophisticated take on picnic favorites. Pasta salad, caprese sandwiches, that kind of thing

I have a meeting coming up with the caterer who works at the venue (she runs a cafe during the week and is responsible for all church functions) to see if she's available and talk about options, but I wanted to be prepared with some ideas of what I wanted beforehand.

I don't have to use the venue's caterer, for a small fee I can bring any vendor I want.

Our wedding has a lunch reception. We are serving flank steak, pasta, mahi-mahi, or chicken salad.

All meals are interchangeable in my eyes, so I think dinner at noon would be perfectly fine.

But unlike some PPs, I wouldn't be offended by sandwiches. Sandwiches are a standard lunch food. That sounds good to me!

I guess I'm ghetto or something because we did fancy little sandwiches the first time I got married & it was a lunch reception. We also had some pasta, fruit & vegetable side dishes. I can't remember exactly what they were, this was in 1999. You could also do BBQ, brunch or an early dinner.

We are having a lunch reception at a restaurant and the menu is basically the same just a lunch portion. I think it was a few dollars less pp for the lunch portion in my case.

Anything you serve for dinner can be served for lunch. If you have stations, you can even get creative and add a gourmet sandwich station or some brunch foods.

We did a pretty heavy lunch meal.. grilled salmon, chicken w/ crab, rice, and veggies for the main meal as well as a fruit display, passed apps, and a full dessert bar with wedding cake. No food left over at all!
