Looking for custom Invites/save the dates.

Tiffany, on July 1, 2019 at 9:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

Really trying to find someone that can do custom save the dates & invitations. We we're quoted almost $800 and that's way out of our price range. Our budget is about $450-$500 for both, if we can spend less that's even better. I'm open to people out of my area (Western NY), because they likely can ship the customs to us without issues. Open to any and all recommendations please, TIA!

*Quick edit, I've looked on all websites for invites/save the dates (Shutterfly, Minted, Vista Print, Etsy, locally, etc) and did not see anything that I liked or that me and my FH could agree on, so we'd like to do customs.

Wow! Could you check on Fiverr.com and have them printed somewhere?

Have you tried, Basicinvite.com i spent $118 on over 50 invitations. And as you order more they do reduce the price per invite. Every invitation can be customized by font, color, etc. Basic envelopes are included and they do have coupon codes, I was able to save 20% on my invites and I loved them.

Thanks for the recommendation, but unfortunately I've looked at pretty much every site that offers invites/save the dates and haven't found anything I liked. Our wedding is in December, so it's hard to find matching colors and themes. We're really just looking for a custom designer that won't charge so much.

Have you considered contacting an Etsy artist for custom work? I've met Odd Lot Paperie in person and she was very open to doing custom work.

$500 isn't a great budget for custom save the dates and invitations. Obviously it really depends on how many you need, but even basic fill in the blank invites can cost hundreds of dollars. I think your best bet would be reaching out to someone on Etsy to design something for you, and having it printed by another service like Vistaprint.

I understand, I think I changed my mind well over 5 times when deciding on invitation design. I thought it would be the easiest decision, but was very wrong. Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.

I'm thinking that maybe a formal paper shop may be out of range because vendors hear that someone is charging a certain amount and then they all charge that amount regardless of experience/quality. Perhaps you could consider a graphic design student at a local college?

Have you asked a local stationary shop what they can do within your budget?

I really like the American Wedding on Etsy or their separate website. They look really unique and custom.

I’ve learned anything custom is going to be pretty pricey, so depending on your number of guests it may be hard to do with your budget. Reaching out to a designer on Etsy would probably be more affordable than a physical paper shop and they have some really nice designs on there.

Just to add to my earlier comment that we went with a local stationary shop and they told me they are the same price or cheaper than the online shops. But more details, fancier paper, several inserts etc are going to add up. So you’re best bet is to say this is my budget can you show me what is feasible in this price range.

I found a woman on Etsy who redid my RSVPs for me (I completely changed my mind on them) and they turned out PERFECT AND SUPER AFFORDABLE. When I initially contacted her I wanted to "do them custom" because there was a floral print i fell in Love with but turns out she already had it and didn't need me to send. She was however willing to do custom, anything I wanted. Technically my RSVPs are custom bc I made the wording section and sent it to her how it should read, then she added the flowers and created the layout. It was exactly what I wanted and I had several other companies tell me it couldn't be done, but she did it beautifully. Shop name is Savannahs Memories.

Also, i bought our invitations which included 2 other cards that can be used for details, RSVP, STD, etc off of Ebay. I got all 3 plus envelopes for all cards on Ebay. They also had listings for custom items as well. I only paid $104 total for 100 sets and they are gorgeous.

I purchased mine off of cardsandpockets.com. they have a good selection of premade invites that you can 100% customize or if you get a pdf file of what you want they can do the printing for you. So maybe go to an etsy artist and just purchase a download instead of them printing all the invites and then upload it to this website and print them there? I spent about 150 on 55 invites which included a tri fold invite with a pocket, the STDs, with the invited mounted to a gold piece of paper before being mounted onto the mauve invite itself. And I printed off our detail cards myself to save money.

I had my invitation suite custom designed by a shop called Pretty Lil Notes on Etsy. I didn't see exactly what I was looking for so I reached out to the owner and we spent a few months creating my design, even my plaid is custom. Not sure if your budget will allow for that but it's worth a try.

No need to spend millions on invitations. There are tons of free templates online and, if you want a specific and representative image on your invite, you can purchase an online image to include on the free wedding templates. We bought an image we loved for $11.00 and used a free template. You may need to have a little tech savvy to create the invite you want. Then we had it printed by vistaprint- for about $1.00 per invite and included an RSVP card (free template) that was also printed by vistaprint. The invites and RSVP cards all came with free envelopes. We saved a ton of money, personalized the invites in the way we wanted, and have received a lot of compliments! We also made a small investment (about $10) in a personalized stamp that we bought on Amazon to include on all the invites we mailed out which saved us a ton of time!

I did Vistaprint for our STDs...I wasn’t a fan of the styles but found one that we covered the entire from with an engagement photo, beautiful script of location and date. On the back, our first and middle names, wedding website and hashtag. I got SO much positive feedback! It was $67!!
As for invites...do you even remember what people’s invites look like?! I never do, only the color so I don’t wear it to their day. Try Ann’s Bridal Bargains or Minted. Good luck!

I designed my entire suite for free by myself on canva.com and then had a local print shop print them up on the cardstock we requested. they look amazing and the cost was around $120 for the invite suite and quite minimal for the STDs.
