Looking for alternative ideas instead of getting ready robes

Jennifer, on February 1, 2017 at 3:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

Hi I am looking for some ideas for my 8 bridesmaids and flower girl to get ready in. We will be doing hair and make up and then being picked up and driven to the venue where we will change in to our dresses. I just feel like robes would not be very practical for all that travel. Also I feel like they have been done to death at this point (I have a few myself that I never wear). Any ideas? I was thinking maybe maxi dresses of a pj set with shorts and top? Any links to stores would be super helpful as well! I am looking to spend $25-$30 per girl and would love it if they came in kid sizes as well. Thanks so much Smiley smile !!

I'm planning on doing oversized button ups shirts. The girls can throw on a pair of jeans, shorts or sweats. I like the idea of having something that doesn't have to be taken off over their head so that their hair and makeup doesn't get misplaced or messed up.

PJ sets and t-shirts are really cute! Wrong season for your wedding, but my favorite getting ready outfit was for a November wedding - the bride got us all plaid flannel shirts from old navy!

After reading forums many girls who have been bridesmaids have said they hated the robes because honestly who all wants to sit around in a robe and get ready. So after a lot of searching I came across the idea of matching rompers, it looks super cute!

I don't have much in the way of suggestions, but I would say definitely stick to tops that button up so you don't have to pull them off over finished hair and makeup.

I almost went the robes route but am glad I didn't. I actually got lace tank tops (Navy for BMs, white for me). I didn't get them personalized so they can wear them again. It's not super formal but I think it will make a cool hair picture with the lace detail in back

@Caitlin how are you going to get that off without fucking up your hair? Is it wide enough at the neck that you can pull it down off your body?

Those rompers are going to give me nightmares. I would reconsider that idea. I thought nothing could be more unflattering and uncomfortable than the robes. I was wrong.

That is sweet that you'd like to do something like that for your girls. For a May wedding, you could do a lightweight hoodie (very thin material) and have the girls wear leggings or whatever other comfy pants/shorts they want. I'd imagine comfort would be key for me on a day like that before getting all dolled (tortured) up lol.

Personally I'm trying to avoid robes, PJs, etc. Not practical, and they probably won't be worn again.

I've been thinking of buying them leggings and either a cute button up or college jersey (we all went to the same school).

Ya, I second AlwaysMs. The idea of wearing a romper would make me even more uncomfortable, I feel even more exposed in those. I would say just a cute pair of PJ's with the button up tops or even the oversized shirts and leggings like other pp have suggested.

@FlightyFlutist they are a very large scoop neck in the front and are very stretchy so I think we'll be fine.

Rompers are SO unflattering on most people. I'm leaning toward a lightweight zip-up hoodie.

I do have to add that rompers are sooo hard to pull off.

I've never worn a romper because I don't want to be naked when I go to the bathroom!

Those rompers are only cute on tall and skinny people. I would look hideous. I hope all your girls are tall and skinny.

Just let them bring their own stuff. They know what they'll be comfortable prepping and travelling in. This is an unnecessary expense for something very few people really want.

We're doing super soft v neck t shirts. The neck is wide enough to get it off without screwing up our hair or makeup. Everyone can wear jeans/leggings/shorts, whatever they prefer. Button downs could also be super cute too!

And totally agree no no no no to the rompers. Rompers are for children, not women old enough to do their own taxes
