Longline Bra and Backfat

Lala, on September 4, 2016 at 1:33 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I had my dress fitting today, and given the bumps on the road I've had, it was a breath of fresh air that the dress fitting didn't go completely awry.

However, one slight problem I have is my longline bra (Dominique from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Dominique-Longline-Lace-Torsolette-White/dp/B0000CBXI6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472966850&sr=8-2&keywords=dominique longline bra) is giving me some slight backfat. I've already sized up a band and my seamstress will be repairing the cups. It also doesn't help that I have scoliosis which makes one scapula stick out more than the other.

I'm currently debating whether I need a longline bra. While it's super comfy and does make my hips look smaller and the stomach flat, it doesn't really take in my waist. In fact, I had an easier time zipping up the dress while wearing a non-longline. Is this normal? Does anyone have recommendations for longlines that don't cause reverse muffin top? Thanks!

Definitely a little disheartening since I've finally got my waist down to 28 inches, but it hasn't helped my backfat much. Definitely don't want to wear a longline if it's going to make me look bulker!

I don't have advice on a specific longline bra to try, but I am not planning to wear any bra. I didn't want to add any thickness to my torso and I find strapless bras to be incredibly uncomfortable. Do you feel like you absolutely need the support of some kind of bra? Going braless or having cups sewn into your dress are options that would reduce back fat.

I was pondering that, but the problem is my bust size (DDD cups). Not sure if sewn cups will cut it for me.

Definitely liking the feel of support, but that's probably because I'm a former corset wearer. Not really liking the backfat part, which was also a problem when I used to corset.

Gotcha. I'd say try on the dress without a bra, just to be sure it's not what you want.

I'm a ddd and not wearing a bra. The seamstress even told me not to and she is going to put in cups. What did the seamstress recommend?

When I had the long line bra on, I was spilling over the top! Without a bra, the girls were controlled. You can always wear something to slim your tummy if that is something you are concerned about.

I had this issue with all the longline and torsolette bras I tried. Then at my fitting, we took them totally out of the dress and I wore it with nothing underneath but my Spanx. It was magical - the neckline softened, the backfat disappeared. Now, my dress has boning and an inner corset, which already do half the job a longline bra would be doing. If yours doesn't have either of those things, they can be put in.

    For the record, I'm a 36-38 DD.

What kind of dress are you wearing? Strapless? Maybe you could get Spanx instead of the longline bra.
