Long train

Candace, on July 6, 2019 at 7:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi everybody!
I have a long train on my wedding dress. I don’t really care for the look of bustling my dress because I love the way my train looks flowing. Has anybody just carried their train throughout the wedding or let it drag and regret it? Was it annoying, heavy..etc? Thanks!!

If it’s not very heavy you could get a wrist loop. I had a long train that was heavy and I couldn’t imagine not bustling it. I wanted to dance and have fun with my guests and people would’ve been stepping on it every second if I didn’t bustle it.

I think you will regret not getting it bustled. It will be difficult sitting without the chair catching on the dress, or walking and dancing without worrying about your dress getting stepped on and shredded.

No one could come with me to my bridal appointment, so no one learned how to bustle my chapel trainned dress properly. I let it drag and it was fine. It got dirty but no damage. If I was reselling it, I probably would have insisted on my MoH bustling it. It was only really a hassle when I was going to the bathroom!

My train isnt super long, but much longer than I expected when dress shopping. Im having my seamstress add a bustle AND a wrist loop. If it gets in the way too much or becomes too heavy ill just bustle it up.

It will get very heavy and weigh the dress down. I had one for my first wedding. The bustle got ripped out somehow and it drug on the ground. Huge pain in the a**. Got so dirty and soooooo heavy. Get yourself a good sturdy bustle

I was so ready to bustle my dress once we were done with photos. It annoyed the crap out of me! I did also have a wrist loop which was useful for photos but started cutting into my wrist pretty fast and I got annoyed with that too. I’d at least get a bustle so that you have the option - you don’t have to use it if it’s there, but you might regret not getting one.

So I didn't have a train really but I'd say my dress was kinda long anyway and it was definitely annoying. But I would hold it up with a hand throughout the night

My dress has a really long train, and it's all satin. We are doing a five point American bustle. I honestly cannot imagine holding it up all night while trying to get up and down from a chair, dancing, moving around to talk, etc. I would at least get the bustle so that you have the option just in case you do end up bothered by it.

Agree with others that it is highly unlikely you are not going to want to leave it down all day. When you get your dress (if you don't have it already) try walking around in it, sitting, standing, dancing, etc. I'd guess in less than 5 minutes you'll realized you do NOT want to drag it around all day -- it will get stepped on, caught on things, wrapped around your feet, etc. Depending on the weight of your dress, a wrist loop may or may not be a good option. There was a bride recently who did one and found it fine, but I don't think her train was incredibly long and/or heavy (I think her screen name is "Gen"). But a wrist loop basically means one arm is pretty much only being used to carry your dress, making dancing, hugging people, carrying your bouquet, a plate or glass, etc., that much more challenging. There are LOTS of ways to construct a bustle, so if you don't like one look, ask a seamstress to show you other options before you make a final decision about not having one. Good luck!

My dress has a very long train to it also. I will definitely be getting a bustle for it once it’s in. I was also told to bring heavy duty safety pins with you the day of because the bustle can rip out if people step on it. One good pull is all it takes. Better to have it just in case!
