Long Sleeve Gown in warm weather? Opinions please!

Braelynn, on October 9, 2020 at 3:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
I’ve always dreamed of having a long sleeve ball gown as my wedding dress and found the perfect dress that I’m obsessed with! I should note the dress is satin and the sleeves are too (They are not lace, so heavier material) Only problem is the average highs on our wedding day is 75 degrees. We will be getting married around 5pm though so hopefully it will cool down by then? Do you have any experience with this? Do you think I’ll be too hot? Our ceremony is outside (scheduled for 30 min) but our reception is inside (AC). The seamstress said they can take the sleeves off but I really love how it looks right now!

It can be hot at 75 and could cool down by 5 but could be humid. Depends on where you live. I suggest a shorter outside ceremony and plenty of cold water nearby. Maybe airbrush make up in case you sweat. Maybe step indoors to cool down. Ask your photographer for tips as they may have dealt with that.

Everyone is different, and I know people who are freezing when it's below 70 and in full out winter layers and others who consider 60 to be t-shirts and shorts weather. I'd also look at the lows for the day and consider the time of year and location. I'm in New Hampshire where the high/low for the day can easily swing by 40 degrees or more, but in other areas day/night fluctuations of more than 10-15 degrees are pretty rare. Humidity, wind, and whether you are in direct sun or shade also all impact how hot or cold the air feels regardless of the recorded temperature.

For me, sleeves on a 75 degree day would probably be a bit warm, but if the humidity was low and there was a breeze it could be really comfortable.

I'd also keep in mind that traditional men's dress clothes are all long sleeve options, so if your FH, dad, brother, best guy friend, etc can wear a long sleeved button down dress shirt, possibly a vest and/or jacket, you can manage to wear some satin on your arms.

I think this is definitely a “know your body” kinda thing. I, personally, would be sweating my you-know-what off! My mother, on the other hand, would probably be just perfect. It might be a good idea to stand outside for 30 minutes with long sleeves on when it is about 75° outside and see how you feel.

80 plus with satin, No. Nor with high humidity. But 75 degrees in February should be fine. Don't drink any alcohol before the wedding. It is always possible to cut lace inserts in a satin sleeve, but for higher temps. As was posted above, if you are formal enough for a ballgown, then the men, wedding party and guests, will be in shirts and jackets.

I would never wear long sleeves in warm/hot weather. Even if you get cold easily, you will be miserable from the heat. Find a lightweight dress with straps.

Tangent question. Does airbrush makeup help with sweat, tears, etc? My makeup girl is doing airbrush but I am unfamiliar with the perks other than seeking how awesome it looked on me. Also I'm such a happy crier I fear all the ugly crying tears messing up my makeup haha

What keeps everything from smudging and smearing is the application of primer and setting spray.

I have been told it holds up better but I would ask your make up artist. I will say if the weather is cool on the day of I will just do regular foundation but since FL is unpredictable if it is hotter day of then I will opt for airbrush.

Everyone id different. I would probably sweat so I would prefer to marry early in the morning before it warms up.
