Long farm table seating

You could assign each seat and have "section numbers/fixtures" for example table 1 section A, B, C. That way the don't have to search up an down but within a section

I went to a wedding that had long farm tables (40 people each) but guests were assigned by "tables" which were really groups of 8. So Table 1 could be guests 1–8, Table 2 is guests 9–16, and so on. You can still put table numbers on the table to help people find their section, and/or have individual name cards at their exact seats.

With long tables you will have to assign each seat. Unless there is a gap between each, there is no way that letting guests pick their seat will be feasible. Also will harder for guests to locate their spots.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I've decided to definitely go with assigned tables and make some signage that will direct people, as well as individual settings.

I would for sure go with place cards.
