Long distance for a while

Marisa-, on March 1, 2021 at 9:27 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 4
So my fiancé got a great job opportunity out of state and we decided as a couple the best choice was for him to go. He leaves first and I leave once the school year is over; I’m a substitute. We live in NJ and he left for Ohio. Of course I miss him dearly and I think to myself summer is right around the corner. We’re still getting married in NJ because all our family and friends are here. I wanted to see if maybe other engaged/ married couples have faced the challenges of a partner leaving for awhile and how to keep the spirits up. I miss him so much. 😭😭

My fiancé and I were long distance for 2.5 years (MA and TX) before we finally closed the distance and it was definitely hard. And I so feel you on the missing part. Even now when I think about our long distance, I feel those same "missing" feelings all over again. Something that really helped me get through it was making sure that I was keeping myself busy with various hobbies and developing myself as an individual. For example, I started doing aerial yoga, rowing, baking, and video editing after we started doing long distance. As couple activities, we used to do virtual date nights where we'd order or cook (he'd attempt to cook haha) similar types of food, get dressed up, and just enjoy dinner together while videochatting. We also made sure to wait on watching certain TV shows together so that was also a fun activity.

The most difficult times were those days when I needed was a hug from him but just couldn't get it because of the distance and vice versa. But there are ways around that to an extent. We would surprise each other with little food or drink deliveries and the sentiment behind it was always so special. We were also always able to find time for each other to just talk when needed. We had set times for calls that I would look forward to, but it always made me so happy when my fiancé randomly called me while he was walking or driving for no reason other than that he missed me.

With all that said, long distance is definitely feasible and a great way for you to grow as an individual and as a couple. We survived being in different time zones for over two years, getting stuck at airports overnight because of inclement weather when trying to visit, me being bedridden and having a medical device attached to me for 2 months after surgery, and we came out stronger than ever as a couple. The best feeling was finally figuring out the day the distance would be closed and just looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together. And now with the current pandemic, he's never more than 15 feet away from me haha. Best of luck to you and you guys can do it! If the hardest part of long distance is missing each other, then you know you found the right person and will get through it! Smiley smile

Thank you ❤️❤️ I’ve been crying all day 😭😭 I also tell myself I’ll be with him by July (which in all honesty isn’t far away) but I just miss everything. And to see him cry when he left broke my heart.

Yes ma'am! Was semi long distance with my fiance for 2 and a half years! It's a little diff than your situation bc we were only 100 miles away and saw eachother every weekend. You'll be reuniting with him for good in three months, right? I don't think that's too bad.
