Long barn tables- Escort Cards/ Seating Chart?!

Claire, on October 10, 2019 at 9:49 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
We are having our reception in a barn and will be having 200 guests. There will be 10 guests per table. All the tables are long and rectangular and they’re all connected into 2 rows (so 10 tables per row). Just thinking ahead on seating plan. We are having a buffet FYI. I have asked advice on seating plans from friends who have gotten married. Some friends have said just have escort cards with guests’ names & let them pick their seat since the tables are connected. I have read on here though it can be difficult for guests to determine where a table starts and ends in that case. We don’t plan to have table cloths though so wouldn’t people be able to see that?! I have thought about creating a seating chart and have place cards already at their seats. Then again I have been to weddings where we just have escort cards but no assigned tables or seating and it was not chaotic at all (even with 300 people). Never been to a wedding with long tables. Recommendations?

I went to a wedding with long connected tables and they assigned tables via escort cards, but not specific seats. It worked fine and there was no issue discerning where each table started and ended , though I can’t recall how— May have been a no-table cloth situation! It went smoothly, and it was clear that each table section was a different table. They had 3 separate rows of tables and one thing they did that was both cool and helpful was give each table a 2 part name , so that you knew both which row you were in, and which table within the row.

I would definitely have some kind of seating chart. Rectangular tables makes it more difficult for guests for to pick up and move to a different table, but that also means it’s more likely that couples/families will get split up. In your case, I think I would do a seating chart and place cards.

I was going to recommend different or alternate centerpieces to differentiate each table, but I also really liked McSkipper's idea of numbers and names on each table, like Row 1 - NYC and they would find the table number that says NYC. But I also think that not having table cloths will make things easier.

We had long tables with escort cards and people were able to distinguish between the different tables.

Definitely do some sort of seating chart. Just number the tables as you normally would even though they're all connected, it will not be difficult for people to find the tables.

We did long farmhouse style tables, 125 guests in 3 long tables. We had table numbers like this, and divided them up by the normal table length and people figured it out.Long barn tables- Escort Cards/ Seating Chart?! 3We did a seating chart like this, then place cards on each seat.Long barn tables- Escort Cards/ Seating Chart?! 4A wider look at our 3 long tablesLong barn tables- Escort Cards/ Seating Chart?! 5Another look at our tablesLong barn tables- Escort Cards/ Seating Chart?! 6It worked out really well, no one got confused and everyone found their seatLong barn tables- Escort Cards/ Seating Chart?! 7
