Logistics of getting ready

Jessica, on September 7, 2023 at 3:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

This is causing me the most stress so far - how is everyone handling getting ready? Our venue is not a hotel, so we won’t be getting ready on-site. I was going to book a hotel room in our downtown area, but I just found out there is going to be a major concert the day of our wedding and a lot of the hotel rooms are already booked.
I’m now looking at hotels in the suburbs, but they’re not as “sexy” as staying downtown - very basic rooms. And, where does the groom get ready? Our house has terrible natural lighting so I don’t feel like it’s an option. And what do the moms do in between getting hair/makeup and the actual arrival to the venue?

Many venues have a bridal suite - have you inquired about anything like that?

Often times people have their hotel room as they will spend the night there after the wedding also. (Sidenote: are the hotels that are all booked the same hotels you would suggest guests stay at? If your wedding is in the "downtown" area this would be important to communicate asap).

Can you go to a salon to get your hair and make up done? Then you can change into your dress either at the salon or at the venue when you arrive.

First check with your venue about options — most places that do weddings have at minimum a bride’s room and often a groom’s room as well.

I’m staying at our house the night before and getting ready at the venue, and my fiancé is staying at a hotel and mostly getting ready there, finish at the venue.

Have you tried looking at AirBnB or something similar? My husband and his groomsmen got ready at an AirBnb, and the AirBnB we stayed at on the wedding night would have made a great "getting ready" place. My bridesmaids and I got ready at my/our house, but it sounds like that's not an option for you.

Our ceremony was at noon, so there wasn't time for my mom and MIL to get ready with me and the bridesmaids. My mom found a stylist for them both, and they got ready at the hotel. After she was done, my mom came over to help me get dressed, and we went straight to the venue for the ceremony. I honestly don't know what MIL did after her hair and make-up were done, I don't think that she would have had a lot of downtime, though.
