Locking Card Box

kNrYwC, on August 3, 2018 at 2:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

We met with our day of coordinator last week to go over final planning details - she mentioned that they prefer couples use a locking card box and they cannot be held accountable for any cards that go missing.

Problem is we already purchased a card box ... that's actually a shadow box from West Elm. I like it, and we'll use it after the wedding as well. I'd hate to spend extra money for a locking card box that looks like it's for a wedding - that I'll get no use of after the wedding.

Has anyone ever had issues at a reception with cards going missing? I trust our guests, and I would like to think I can trust the catering staff as well. Maybe I'm too trusting?

For reference, this is what we plan to use (planning to just leave it open)

It is better to be safe than sorry I get what you are saying when you mentioned future use. I got an actual monogram acrylic wedding card box that will be used for bills afterwards. It doesnt have a lock so I will be securing it around the perimeters of the box.

Better safe then going missing. Im making our card box out of 2 heavier boxes like pictured. Theyre all going to be glued shut and we will just cut it open the next day. The boxes arent real pricey so its not a big deal to just throw it in the recycle afterwards.

Hey there! I would also recommend getting something with added protection that isn’t transparent - just to be on the safe side!! Smiley smile

My mom and I jusy had this discussion. Last week Hobby Lobby had all bridal stuff 50% off. I as well didnt want something that was too weddingish. As I have strived to buy things that can be reused someway in our home afterwards. Anyway, at our HL they had a white lock box that is wooden and looks kinda rustic. Its simple, but it can be left open or closed and locked. So I had planned on it being open, and I was going to put some vinyl on it that said cards to dress it up. My mom was like you need to keep thay closed bc you never know. And like you I wouldnt think we would have to worry about that with our guests, but you truly never know anymore. Anyway, afterwards I plan to use it again but without the vinyl letters. I plan to stick some fake flowers with a cylinder vase in the center and it will go on a shelf in our home somewhere or I will use in the living room to keep our remotes all together.

My card box looks exactly like yours, I think it's really pretty!

I guess my opinion is that I trust all of my vendors and guests...and quite frankly if someone really wanted to steal a card would they not just take the whole box? I understand there is a risk there but being that untrusting at a private celebration seems a bit excessive in my personal opinion.

That said, most people will put their gifts/cards down in a high traffic time before they are seated so it's not likely they would be taken then and you could then assign a member of the wedding party or a parent to grab them and hold for safe keeping.

The bartender at my coworker’s wedding ended up stealing many of their cards amounting to thousands of dollars. You could use your current card box and have a trusted friend/family member remove cards throughout the night to store in a safe space. Of course, you could use your box and know there’s a small chance that cards will be stolen but I have no clue how likely that is.
