Locked/enclosed Card Box?

Happily Ever Mrs. H, on August 29, 2018 at 3:10 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 44

What are you guys doing for your card boxes? Are you having them open, or accessible, or are you having them locked or enclosed? How are you DIY-ing your boxes so no one can steal the cards?

I honestly really haven't thought about this. We're planning to just have a lantern open for people to put cards in. We have security at our wedding so hopefully that will be enough?

I bought a card box from Micheal's and hot glued a ribbon around the lid so that it could not open. The box had a slot on the top of the lid to drop cards into so it was perfect.

That's what I was thinking of doing. I found a glitter card box at TJ Maxx and I could hot glue the inside of the lid so it'll stick to the bottom of the box. My MOH said to zip-tie it, but I don't want to put a hole through it because it's so pretty Smiley sad

We’re definitely finding some way to secure the cards even if it’s having it nearby so a family member can keep an eye on it. I’ve heard of too many couples in our area having their cards and even gifts stolen.

Ours will be locked and just a slot at the top for people to put the card in.

My stepdad handmade our box from an image I saw on Etsy. The panel on the back slides off but you would never know by looking at it.

Unfortunately just having security is not enough. If you don't have a locked/secured card box it would be very easy for someone to discreetly grab cards out of it and security wouldn't even see this.

Ours was a birdcage with a lock. It was easy for people to put cards in through the sides, but getting them out would be harder. And it was near security, so that someone was likely to notice if someone spent too much time trying to get cards out, or tried to make off with the whole thing.

We're using a top loading shadow box we got from Michael's. We're going to stick a simple sign on it, then reuse the frame for wedding memorabilia afterward.

Ours won't be locked. Our wedding is the only event at the venue and I'm pretty positive our guests won't take it. Ours will just be a wooden box and after cocktail hour our coordinator will take the box to keep until she brings it to us after the wedding.

I got a really cute locking box from Party City for like $20. There are so many stories on here of presents and cards get stolen. Definitely get a locking one or one that is not easily accessible.

Ours will be locked. Our venue is a restaurant and we have the back of the restaurant rented for the reception. There will still be regular diners in the front of the restaurant so I figured it would be best to just not take the chance.

My FH and his dad are making our card box (to my specifications of course! Smiley smile ). We bought a little heart lock to go on the latch since we bough all of the hardware. My mother was adamant to have a lock on the card box, even though our venue is a standalone location. I wasn't bothered by it before but 2 of my co-workers got married 2 weeks ago and they had cards taken from their card box. Smiley sad

I also bought a card box from Michael's and I love your idea of hot gluing it!

FH made one, a wooden box basically. He's gluing/nailing it together so when it comes time to get into it we'll have to dismantle the whole thing

I did a glass and gold terrarium house with no lock.

A lock really isn't going to do anything if the person can just lift the box and carry it away.

We kept ours in a conspicuous location near the favor table and the photo booth so it wasn't in a random secluded spot someone could easily grab and go. About halfway through the night my man of honor decided to just bring it up to the bridal suite to be safe. Worked out great for us.

I’m having an open box but it’ll have a latch to lock it. I guess it’s better for transporting? Not sure why it matters if it open or closed?

This is similar to what our card box looks like, and it has a lock and key. You can't see it in this picture, but on the top there is one missing slat for cards to get dropped in.

Is it crazy that I'm thinking of dropping a heavy rock or something in it to weigh it down? Maybe chain it to the table in the back? LOL

I think that no one really wants to think that their guests will steal, but remember it isn't just your guests that will be there. You also have your vendors, who your vendor employs, guests at the venue that aren't in YOUR party, as well as the people that work at the venue. As nice as it is to think that everyone is honorable, we know that isn't the case.
