Lock and Key ceremony

ShanAndKelsWeddingBells, on June 13, 2018 at 9:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

We're trying to think of a different way to get rid of the keys, instead of using balloons. Should the officiant just toss them over his shoulder? Iol I really like the balloon idea, but I know what it does to the environment. I was thinking just maybe two balloons instead of the bunch i wanted initially. Any ideas?

Can you keep the key but take it to get melted down into some sort of trinket to save like in the shape of a heart?

I was just thinkin the same thing I haven't heard of it b4 either. With the balloon I would be curious about the environmental impact for sure.

I'm curious about this ceremony as well. It sounds like you have to "throw away the key" or something in that respect? I agree about the environmental issue concerning the balloons. Could you possibly bury the key instead?

You can purchase eco friendly balloons that can be released and won’t hurt anything. Or you could do one of those float away lanterns? I know they have eco friendly versions of those too.

This was just a quick search on amazon. I’m sure there are many other companies that sell them.

We have two locks one with each of our names and wedding date engraved on them. We’re going to lock the locks to each other, the tie the keys to balloons and release them so we are left with our locked engraved locks with no way to undo them as a memento of the ceremony. I wanted to do this instead of a sand ceremony or the like. The lanterns might work, but it’s during the day and it’s still possibly an environmental impact. those eco friendly doves might do the trick thank you!

It's going to play out this way at the ceremony:

You all have witnessed Kellie and Shannon exchange rings, but they wish to further symbolize their commitment.

A soulmate is someone who has that special key which helps us to unlock our truest self. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are. We can be loved for who we are. Our soulmate is someone who shares in our deepest longings, in our sense of direction, all while each unveils the best part of the other. These two padlocks represent such a connection Kellie and Shannon found in each other. I invite them to join their locks together and secure them.

-K&S joins and secures locks, then places them on the table by balloons-

These locks demonstrate that they are joined together in marriage, a promise between two people that they will forever strive to both complement and complete one another. I now ask Kellie and Shannon to tie their keys to these balloons. Remember as you do this, your locks will now be joined permanently as you have chosen to let balloons take the keys away.

-K&S tie keys to balloons, then cuts them with scissors and holds the balloon and keys together-

When you’re upholding one another, and moving upwards together, chances are, you’ve found the right person.

-K&S let the keys and balloons go-

Right I just mean if you have the key melted down into a new shape. It essientally makes it impossible to ever unlock the keys still and you’d get to keep whatever shape it melts into.

Those eco friendly doves are cute!

This is cute and so meaningful! The locks will be nice to display at home to remember the day too! I may have to look into it for ours as we also did not want sand, candle or wine ceremony and I wasn’t really finding anything else we liked. Thanks for the explanation!
