Local wedding, hotel accommodations?

April, on December 15, 2019 at 11:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
What is the general rule for accommodations when it comes to a local wedding? We are getting married about 7 miles from where we live. Our venue does have a limited number of rooms for guests to stay but they do not allow you to do a room block, other wise the closet hotel is actually in the town we live in, which is also where the majority of the wedding guests live. We have a very small number of people that would be traveling and it’s up in the air as to whether they’ll even be coming. In my opinion it wouldn’t really make sense for us to pay for a room block when there would likely be very few people staying at hotels, should I just include the closet hotel information in the invitations?

I wouldn’t do a room block in the same city that the majority of your guests are from.

You should never pay to do a room block. If you’re wanting a room block and they make you meet a guarantee or put a deposit down, go elsewhere. If the hotel you want doesn’t do blocks, list it on your wedding website and mention there isn’t a block set up. You can provide guests with resources but we live in an age where they can figure it out if they aren’t happy with what they’re provided with.

That makes sense and was definitely what I was leaning toward. I figured I’ll provide the information for the rooms at the venue and the closest hotel, and as you said mention that there’s no block set up.

I agree with PP. After looking at our guest list, we decided to forego a room block as many of our guests are local to our venue. Instead, we listed a few hotels with different nightly prices and have an AirBNB link in the vicinity of the venue on our wedding website for guests to look at if they choose to get a hotel room.

I would say it is up to the guess where they choose to stay. Twice I have had to travel for a wedding and once I was in a bridal party and no one did a room block. For my sister-in-law's wedding we flew up to my FHs home state and we just got a regular Hotel. She did not find accommodations for anyone traveling.

I wouldn’t if you think a majority of guests will be able to easily stay at home. We only did a block because virtually everyone was at minimum an hour from home. I’d save the stress and provide hotel info so people can book if needed.

I think you're good! I am getting married in a town that most people don't live and unfortunately can't even pay for a hotel block. It's been a nightmare.

I would do 1 complimentary block near the venue since they are easy to set up and free.
