Livestream Quality for Outdoor Wedding

Surbhi, on April 10, 2020 at 2:50 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 3

I'm planning to have a backyard wedding with just my and my fiance's families (+ a photographer) in June. My friends have all asked me to consider livestream but i'm SUPER anxious about a few things:

- With an outdoor wedding i'm worried about audio quality. Does anyone have experience/suggestions on how to improve the quality with mics or something to make sure people aren't just hearing wind or silence?

- Should we ask our guests to get involved? i've seen some people ask guests to post photos livestreaming the wedding all dressed up or toasting with the couple. What platforms support guests being able to post like that and also perhaps act as a digital guestbook? On Zoom it disappears once the call is over...

Any other advice for how to make the livestream a fun/cool experience rather than a hassle would be appreciated! Everything else about the wedding I'm so so excited and organized about, but it would just be a shame if people joined in and didn't enjoy.

Thanks!!

Do YOU want to do a livestream wedding? My FH and I have zero interest in this, as we don't want anyone wrapped up with recording as it happens and it would feel less personal and special to us to have video of our unfiltered ceremony flowing live over the internet. No amount of convincing from guests who could not attend would make us feel any differently. I'd rather invest money in a quality photographer or videographer to share with guests who couldn't make it after the fact. If your original plan and budget was for a larger event and you are changing plans due to Covid-19, I think the money you save from hosting something smaller would be well used if put towards a professional videographer to capture the essence of your day. You'd have professional coverage (video and audio) and it would be a keepsake for your future, something you could share with your friends but also treasure for many years to come.

Now if you want to livestream your wedding so those who can't be there are able to participate in real time, by all means, go for it! Just don't take on something that doesn't excite you just because your friends want you to. If you do end up livestreaming, you'll likely need some professional audio equipment so that guests can hear your vows without picking up too much wind noise. Unless you have a calm, windless day and no background noise (lawnmowers, traffic, neighbors grilling burgers, etc) a smartphone isn't going to cut it for capturing audio and video of the whole ceremony.

If this is something you want I think its cool. You can FB live you can facetime, you can zoom,. You can do a few things to get it live streamed and feel special that people are still interested in being part of your special day, understand that you are loved and important they want to celebrate your union digitally.

    Hi Surbhi,

My best suggestion for you is to contact a videographer (or several) for professional equipment, platform and/or technique recommendations. You can easily find a list of local videographers on WeddingWire. They may be able to give you some helpful tips. Or, if you have the budget, you may be able to hire them to do it for you. One less thing to worry about!

The next-best idea would be to Google "wedding videographer how to livestream." I did exactly that, and there are many results. There are "how to" videos on YouTube as well.

    Good luck! Smiley heart
