Live Music at Cocktail Hour

Kelly, on July 10, 2019 at 3:06 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

I was interested in having an acoustic guitarist perform for our cocktail hour and am starting to get quotes. For context, the cocktail hour and reception are at a venue on Long Island and will mostly be indoors in May.

What is a typical price for a solo performer for about an hour? Does it seem worth it to have at a cocktail hour?

I am unsure of prices, but I do think live music during cocktail hour is nice. I attended a beach wedding that had 2 guys playing steel drums during cocktail hour. This was years ago, and I still remember that part of their wedding, because I liked it so much.

We found a DJ who could play acoustic guitar for the cocktail hour as well as DJ the reception. The price was $1750 for everything.

We're having a husband and wife couple that sing, play the cello, and play the piano perform at our ceremony and cocktail hour. We're paying them $675. It was $375 for just the ceremony. and $625 for the ceremony and cocktail hour (plus a $50 travel fee).

We did the same as Kelly. Ours played acoustic guitar for the ceremony. He played acoustic guitar and sang for cocktail hour. Then he DJed the reception. We paid 850 in PA. He was great!

I have a string trio for the ceremony (30 mins prelude, 30 mins ceremony) and for cocktail hour (actually 45 mins instead of a full hour) for $975. I’d expect to pay much less for a solo artist, no more than $500.

I hired a band for the reception and one of the musicians played acoustic guitar during my cocktail hour. He only charged me $100 and my cocktail hour was 90 minutes. I think a typical price would usually be around $200 for 1 hour.

We have a solo violinist playing acoustic for the ceremony (1 hr) and electric for the cocktail hour (1 hour). The cost came to $618.
