Liquor Poll

Coquitha, on February 22, 2022 at 8:56 PM Posted in Planning 18 11
Trying to see about creating a poll for guest to vote on liquor so that we can get an estimate on what to buy and how much for bar

I thought about doing that too! Just sounds like a pain to administer. I would just ask what the bar recommends.

You can also check with the store you buy the liquor from, there’s a good chance that you can return unopened bottles! Helps to err on the side of caution!

The average quantity is one drink per person per hour.
As far as selection, it depends on your crowd. Most drink beer, wine, and seltzers with a few hard liquor.

This is a know your crowd thing so you have to ask people who will be attending your wedding: relatives, friends.

Some people drink only beer and wine and others drink liquor only. There is a huge misconception that people cannot get drunk on beer or wine but will get toasted with one glass of liquor and not even talking about shots which are forbidden at many venues. The opposite is true more often than not.
In our circles, if we served beer or wine only which is pushed on WW, we would have lots of wasted money and alcohol because the drinkers in our groups do not like beer or wine. They prefer liquor or nonalcoholic beverages.
As far as how much to buy, you can use the calculator online for BevMo.com and TotalWine.com or go in store to ask. The guideline is two drinks for the cocktail hour and one drink each hour following. Costco also sells alcohol inexpensively but the bottles are larger than what can easily be lifted/poured by bartenders. Keep in mind that you must serve substantial food to prevent getting drunk. Don’t serve alcohol with sweets because the high sugar content will make the alcohol go straight to your blood stream and your guests will be drunk immediately.

I'm planning at least two drinks per person per hour. Most of my guests are heavy drinkers, and many like gin. A lot of online calculators say only a few bottles of gin are necessary, but I'm getting 7. Maybe you could just poll your immediate family and wedding party instead of all the guests to get an idea of what people will drink. I know because I've had drinks with everyone I'm inviting.

We're thinking about doing the same thing! Even with the ability to return unopened bottles (depending on where you get them), I'd rather not spend exorbitant amounts in the first place... we're thinking about doing beer, wine, and only 2 signature cocktails as far as liquor, but I'm also strongly considering a poll just to get a more specific idea of how much we should get of what item.

Sidenote, you posted this the day I got engaged lol! 2/22/22 Smiley heart
