Lingerie Shower or Nah?

So I'm kinda shy and would prefer not to have a lingerie shower but rather purchase those things myself, but as an alternative would it be okay to have a "restaurant and recipe" shower where me and my FH received recipes or gift cards for restaurants to use?

A shower is to "shower" you with gifts. If you don't want gifts or don't plan on registering, then you shouldn't have a shower. It would be okay for guests to bring recipes to the shower, but I don't think it would be okay to have them bring you gift cards to restaurants.

I think that's a nice idea Maybe do a small registry for people who find gift cards "impersonal"

Well, you don't throw showers for yourself. Those are thrown in your honor. So, if you're asking for yourself, don't worry about it. If you have someone who is insisting on throwing you one, have a talk with them emphasizing that you appreciate the thought, but you are uncomfortable and would rather not have a lingerie shower.

You don't throw this for yourself.
There are all kinds of showers. The person that throws you a shower should know you feel enough to what you wouldn't want lingerie.

It's fine to let someone who offers to host a shower in your honor know that you are not comfortable with a lingerie shower. After that, the theme is up to the host. They may ask your input, they may not.
A recipe shower often means that the gift includes the staples needed to make the recipe (sometimes also any special tools or containers).
I would not attend a restaurant gift card shower. That does nothing to help you set up your home.
