Line dance songs at the reception - yea or nay?

Kelly, on October 3, 2018 at 2:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 33

From the Cotton Eye Joe to the Cha-Cha Slide, do you like line dance songs at wedding receptions? Or would you rather pass on them?

Noooope. I won't be dancing at all and I certainly won't be dancing to that stuff lol. Though it would be funny to watch everyone else!

We played line dance songs at our wedding and people were up dancing.

We had the Cha-Cha Slide, and it was a blast.

I'm not crazy about most of them, most will go on the "do not play list". But FH enjoys them so I'll tolerate one or two Smiley winking

Nope! I hate those songs. I understand that some people love them, but I’ve been to so many weddings in the last year and have been waiting for my own so I can skip them and not have someone trying to drag me out on the dance floor to some corny coordinated dance song 😂

The only "line dance" I have outlawed is the macarena lol. (And the Chicken Dance and playing the song "Love Shack.") Outside of that, anything is fair game, but I told my DJ to read the room. If no one asks for it or if they seem to be responding to what you're playing without odd line dances, don't bother!

They’re not a deal breaker either way for me. I will or won’t join in depending on my mood at the time lol. But I know people love them, so we told the DJ that we were okay with any of them except the chicken dance! I don’t know why I hate that one, but I do. He said that he never does that one anyway, unless the bride and groom request it, so we’re good there!

I love them. They are a great way to boost the camaraderie and connected feel for everyone at the wedding. Plus, they make for great photo opportunities, and tend to get even those who aren't dancing onto the dance floor.

I like line dances. I think they help shy guests get onto the dance floor (hopefully the guests will stay on the dance floor for the rest of the night).

Lol I almost forgot about the macarena!! That's a good idea, sometimes you can get the party started with other songs!

The DJ asked about them and I gave that a hard no. I think it depends on your group. If you have people that need convincing to get on the dance floor they are good but my crowd needed no excuses to get on the dance floor!

We added cupid shuffle to must play and wobble as optional, but no others. Smiley smile

We put Cupid Shuffle and ChaCha Slide on our do not play.... then at some point I walked into the reception room and the Macarena was playing. WHAT. But a lot of people were up doing it! Then the DJ came to me and said he had quite a few people asking for Cha Cha Slide, so I went ahead and allowed it Smiley tongue There was a big crowd out dancing!

The wobble and the electric slide are our only exceptions.
