Lifting the veil

Shunita, on February 25, 2024 at 1:46 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 3
We are not having any brides maids or groomsmen. It will only be us at the alter. My brother is walking me down the aisle. Long story about dad not doing it. Wow it be improper for the HTB to do it or should I have my brother do it? I want it lifted at the start of the ceremony

If you prefer your HTB to lift your veil, he certainly can. It is usually the father of the bride or the person walking the bride down the aisle who does it, but I feel like whatever your preference is, that should be honored.

I’ve seen the father do it, the husband, or just never having it over your face at all. You can do it however you prefer. If you want someone to lift it, either have your brother do it after he gives you away just before he sits down, or have your fiance do it after your brother sits down and before you face the officiant together.

There are some camps that maintain that historically lifting the veil was symbolic of consumation, so I would stick with having you or your husband do it.
