Lifestyle Engagement Shoot?

Terra, on December 24, 2019 at 6:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
My fam pooled together and gifted us an engagement shoot for Christmas! Super excited and grateful. So I'm finally starting to think about it and realized I don't want the garden photos I always assumed we'd take. FH is the type of person who is heavily affected by the weather. An overcast day makes him sad, all the dead trees make him miserable, but if it's clear and sunny he's full of life. I've seen people take some nice winter photos in gardens/parks, but with all the the grass brown and the trees bare, I know FH wouldn't love any pics we took like that, and I kind of feel the same. Buuuut we don't have enough time to wait for the world to rejuvenate bc pics are supposed to be towards the end of next month.
I love the way lifestyle shoots look and think that'd be a great way to showcase our personalities a little more. You know, us in our PJs. Him gaming, me on my laptop, us eating Chinese food. The only problem is, our current living space is not photo-friendly. Would it be absolutely ridiculous to rent an AirBNB to take engagement pics? I found a really cute one nearby for only $55/night. The best part about it though is there is an open brick wall painted bright blue that would work as a great backdrop and match our colors perfectly. We could take all our lounging lifestyle pics inside, and the more dressed up, formal ones outside against the wall and on the steps. Then, when the shoot is over, we have a nice lil one night getaway.
FH likes the idea but I figured I'd open it up to the masses before fully committing. What are your thoughts on more casual engagement pics? Am I being totally silly with this AirBNB thing?

I think that’s an amazing idea! You should definitely go for it and then enjoy your evening together.

I would make sure that you are allowed by Airbnb to have a professional photo shoot there. They might have rules about this type of thing. Otherwise, I think it would be a really cute idea.

We ran into this issue. We wanted to our engagement photos taken at the state park we got engaged at. I had asked my mother-in-law to check with them about having engagement photos taken there. She used to work as a ranger at the park, but hasn't in over 10 years so she didn't know the current rules. She didn't check until like a day before we were supposed to have our photos and they required a permit to have professional photos taken there. She got permission from the person in charge of the park to allow us to take the photos without the permit because she is friends with the person. We got lucky or we would have had to find somewhere else to have our photos taken.

I think that’s fine. Not any weirder than girls doing boudoir shoots in hotels or studio beds that clearly aren’t their own.
