Licensed bartender vs bartending 'service'

Susan, on May 16, 2019 at 10:24 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Hi! My fiance and I are having a backyard wedding on his family's private property. I want to have bartenders, but I want to know what the difference is LEGALLY between hiring people I know who are licensed bartenders vs. hiring a bar tending 'service'. We are providing all of the alcohol but want experienced people to serve it. Are licensed bartenders covered legally? What is the benefit of a bartending 'service' except that they seem to cost much more money.

Thanks!

Get. Wedding. Insurance. Personally, I've seen Travelers come thru with the best prices, plus no deductible. They offer liquor liability. Read through their stuff, it covers soooo much! If you call them they might have info on the question your asking, but my thought would be that this probably varies from person to person. I would call around and ask bar tending services and bartenders if they are covered (get PROOF), but I'd bet they'd all suggest you grab wedding insurance, if not, require it.

Great idea! I didn't even know wedding insurance existed! I also found out that bar tenders can purchase 1-3 day insurance for events like weddings which seems completely reasonable for a good level of coverage. I will check out travelers too! thanks!

Have his family look into adding an umbrella policy or special event insurance to their homeowners policy. This can be done through whoever holds their current policy. I would think both licensed bartenders and bartending services would carry insurance, but like PP said, you have to make sure they do. Even if they do, if something tragic happens you'll want his family to have that extra peace of mind. I'd have them get a quote and offer then the money to cover the premium.

I'm in a similar situation as you but I agree with bride2020. Were also having a small backyard wedding and our caterer offers bartender for an extra fee and that's what were using. However, we are getting wedding insurance from progressive. Our quote was only $98.

We were getting it regardless bc a friend of FH had all the licenses and best of the best with everything, a guy that worked with him left drunk and was killed in an accident and his family tried to sue her parents (they live on a small plantation and that's where the wedding was), but luckily the bride purchased a cheap wedding insurance before the wedding and they paid out.

I've been told by everyone also if you get the wedding insurance do not tell a soul except FH.

Side note: I’m an insurance agent lol 😂 Umbrella coverage is awesome and they should totally have that anyways! 😉 but get the wedding insurance. Travelers and Progressive are both awesome, either is great! I have my renters with Travelers and my auto with Progressive, I’ll be going with Travelers for my wedding I think but Progressive is just as awesome! Also get it well before the wedding! The coverage isn’t just day of, at least in my state (PA)!

(obviously some of the coverage is day of stuff, but other cool things extend to before the wedding)
