Let’s talk catering 🍽

Monique, on October 29, 2019 at 2:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
Hi everyone! Let’s talk about catering. How many people did you meet with until you found your caterer? How did you know they were right for you? And the all important.......what’s on the menu??!! For us we met with about 3 people. We were not impressed with the first two people we found. One was super expensive!! It was Mexican food but for 120 people they wanted almost 6k. The second person we met with wanted almost 8k for pasta with an appetizer. Our budget was 3000 for food. We knew we found our caterer when she was willing to make us a customized menu and stay within our budget!!! We will be having chicken piccata, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans, and pasta. We also were given a free appetizer because we met her at a wedding show. (I was Totally not expecting to find anyone there!!) we are only paying 2300 which is under our budget of 3000 yay! The food is amazing and the caterer is such a sweet lady.

We knew without doing any tastings, pricing, etc. who our caterer was going to be. They're a super popular (and delicious) barbecue restaurant in our state. Everyone we know LOVES this place and we knew we had to have it for our wedding. The few people we've told about the catering are SO excited Smiley xd For 85 people with tax and gratuity, it'll be just under $1,400

Pulled barbecue pork, fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, hash & rice, corn, baby limas, rolls, and sweet tea! Smiley love

We met with 2 different caterers. One is a friend who owns a pretty popular restaurant near us, and we mostly met with him to get an idea of what to ask, what we should be looking like for a budget, that sort of thing. The other one we met with is the one we ended up signing with. We are having BBQ and from the first time we had their food I was hoping they would work out for us. Their food is amazing! The first time we met with them, the owner asked us how we found them. I explained that we were up there for my cousin's daughters graduation party and, of course, she knows my family. She asked who my mom is and when I told her she got teary eyed (my mom passed away last year). She told me that she used to live down the street from my grandparents and my mom used to baby sit her kids. It's hard to explain but at that moment I knew they were the caterer for us. It's almost like my mom sent us there and said this is the caterer for you. Added bonus that her and her family are some of the nicest people on the planet.

We only met with 1 caterer, for our venue they have a list of approved caterers. One of them I had at another wedding and I wasn't impressed at all (had to stop at McDonald's after the wedding). The other was out of budget. So when we went to meet with the one we choose, we hoped it would work. We clicked right away with the owner, he was super friendly and offered to adjust some small things that I wanted. Our budget for food is $4,000; we looked at it the other day and we should be right around there; just depends on declines. For our main meal we are having a served salad with three different dressings: Ranch, French and raspberry vinaigrette. Then we are doing a buffet for the main meal which is: roast beef in beef gravy, chicken piccata, garlic mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and dinner rolls. We are still figuring out the appetizers but right now it looks like: crab cakes, small chicken quesadillas and meatballs.

We knew who we were going to use immediately! We have a long distant family member that owns a catering business in my hometown. We're getting married 2 1/2 hours away from my hometown so it was just a matter of seeing if he'd travel for my wedding. He said yes, and we're getting a great deal on the food! His food is so good so I'm really excited!

We're doing: Grilled Chicken, Roast Beef, Chicken Legs, Mac & Cheese, Green Beans, Mashed Potato Bar, and Rolls Smiley smile

Our venue gave us a list of preferred caterers that we could use. The venue coordinator recommended one particular vendor on the list for their above-and-beyond food and service. Another venue we visited in the area also recommended them. After seeing reviews for them versus the other preferred vendors, we decided to go with the recommended vendor without doing a tasting or anything. They are also providing a DOC which we were going to hire anyway so that was a bonus for us.
