Lets talk Botox

Mallori, on November 26, 2014 at 9:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

I am very tempted to get Botox before the wedding. I don't have any big deep creases, but I have small ones that makeup sometimes gets creased in. I would do my forehead and maybe my baby crow's feet.

For the ladies who have had it, what was your first experience like?

I've never done it, but my good friend does between her eyes and did her upper lip once. I wouldn't recommend that or anything around the mouth too close to the wedding as you won't be able to smile.

I went and had a facial on Saturday for the first time in a looooong time, and I was so grateful when she looked at my skin with that horribly magnified light thing and told me I had a few fine lines in my forehead, but nothing to worry about just yet. Whew!! So no botox here, just yet, but I agree with Lara....stay away from the mouth area!

HA! No babies! I just don't want my little baby crows feet to grow up into monster crows feet.

I am too young for Botox for cosmetic reasons, but I have heard that it cures migraines? I'd be interested to hear from any ladies who have done it (for any reason).

I want Botox soooooo bad! I'm getting bad lines on my forehead (hereditary, unfortunately). My friends all think I'm insane because I'm "too young" for it, but it's my understanding that it's better to start early before the creases set too much. The bigger issue is that FH is very against any cosmetic surgery whatsoever, and I'm the type that believes in plastic surgery until your ears touch. I'll probably sneak Botox one of these days though. Smiley winking

I'm "too young" too, but I have also heard its better to start young. None of my creases are permanent yet, thank god.

Jess, my FH is also very against any alteration of me in any way, but when I said I might get Botox for headaches, he just shrugged and said ok. Men! lol.

I get Botox for migraines. I hear the amount of needles is less in cosmetic Botox. For my migraines, I get it done every 3 months. There are at least 31 shots and if there is some extra leftover they will stab you some more times to use up all the medicine. For migraines, it typically goes in the forehead, top of the head, bottom back of the head and sometimes your shoulders. I have been getting it since October 2010. It took me at least 6 times before I stopped crying during the procedure and having to stop mid-way. It doesn't hurt that bad, but after 15 pokes it starts to bother you. And since it is in your head, you hear the crunch of the needle going into your skin and you hear the liquid coming out of the needle. Botox almost cured my headaches completely for the first 2 years. But for the past 2 years I have gotten more breakthrough headaches. I have a lot of issues surrounding my chronic migraines, though. I can still remember life without the Botox and I can't believe I lived like that for 5 years. My oldest sister get migraines and she started Botox 3 months before me. It hasn't helped her as much. She got sinus surgery and that helped a lot. I just found out I have a deviated septum so I should get sinus surgery to correct it. I can put a Q tip in my nose and one side it can go in all the way but the other nostril it can only go about an inch in before it hits a wall! Everyone is different, but for me it has helped. I have a long road ahead of me and am still trying to find competent doctors, but I'm slowly gaining progress.

Sorry, that wasn't relevant to your situation, but Staci mentioned that she would be curious to hear from someone who gets Botox for migraines.

And I'm not sure what "too young" is. I started Botox when I was 20 years old. They wanted me to start it at 18 but I was so against the idea of being 18 and getting Botox that I held off for 2 years. But again, mine is a different story because I get them for migraines.

Ohhh no botox for me. Although, I could probably use it! Smiley smile

This is funny because as we speak I am on hold with an insurance company trying to get botox authorized for patients here where I work.

Kathleen, I can't imagine how much pain your migraines give you Smiley sad I get them sporadically, but luckily I can go to sleep and they diminish. I still get a migraine hangover for days, but yours just sound......ugh!!!

I'm not really for stuff like botox for cosmetic reasons, but to each their own. I recommend doing anything like that well before your wedding day!!!!!!!

Ugh indeed...that sounds a little intense for my level of migraines. I get them maybe twice a month. I'm so glad it worked for you though.

Also I didn't mean to insult anyone with the "too young" comment! You do you, no judgement. I just meant I don't have any wrinkles yet.

Maybe that is even more insulting? Lol

No, Staci, I was just wondering if there was an age threshold to getting cosmetic Botox. Botox is one of the last resorts for migraines and they only approve it for those with people with headaches for more than 15 days of the month. I was able to get Botox for my migraines younger, as they suggested it for me when I was 18 and it was still relatively new to the medical community. Like I said, I refused to do it for 2 years just because I didn't want to be 18 and getting Botox. That sounded odd. But I didn't know if you get cosmetic Botox, if you have to be a certain age.

Personally I'm way too creeped out by the idea of putting botulism toxin in my body to paralyze muscles so I don't get wrinkled. Ugh. I also think it's weird when people first have it and can't smile normally or move their faces.. so make sure you don't do it too close to your wedding if you do it.

FIL is a doctor and uses it to treat back pain in some of his patients--primarily for slipped discs, I think, because it paralyzes the back and stops the pain.

Seems like a big risk right before your wedding. I wouldn't do it.

Just get your face make up air brushed on! Don't temp yourself with Botox... once it starts to wear off you will feel like you need it again! My co worker gets it done and I don't recommend it until you feel like you really need it!

I do injectables for a living ...most of you are misinformed . There is nothing dangerous about Botox or Dysport ( better than Botox) If you get an eye droop you went to a provider who doesn't know what they are doing . All my patients are thrilled with their results. If you want Botox go for it ...but just be warned looking great can be addicting. Also the only time you should start using Botox is when you actually have wrinkles any time before that is a complete waste of money.

I just hit the 35 mark and am wondering what is an average age that people get botox. I work outside in the elements and enjoy outdoor sports. Maybe wind burn is similar to a chemical peel? I think I'm lucky in the fact that I don't have any wrinkles yet, but one day they will come out of nowhere.
