Let's talk about shoes!

Cynthia, on December 30, 2019 at 1:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hey Ladies! So as I'm getting closer to my dress appointments I've found so many helpful tips on here. And one about taking shoes you are planning to wear so they can get accurate measurements and all. Well my FH is 6'6 ft and I'm 5'2 ft....yeah... Anyways we are having our ceremony in a church but our reception in a wooded grass area in a tent. And I love heels I can wear them anytime and I wouldn't be able to wear them for the reception but I would love to wear heels for the ceremony at least. Anybody know how that works? Should I bring two shoes to my appts? Does it depend on the dress I get? Does it even matter?

Thanks a bunch!

The length of your dress can only be altered to one height. Either you alter it for your ceremony heels and it drags a little at the reception, or you alter it to your reception flats and it doesn’t reach the ground during the ceremony. There’s really no way around it.

Are you talking about appointments for looking at dresses or alteration appointments? If you don’t have your dress yet you don’t need to have the shoes you’re going to wear when you look. Just have them when it’s time for alterations which is usually 2-3 months before the wedding. But I agree with pp that two shoes of different heights will be difficult!

Oh Boomer! Yeah I was worried about that. Thank you! If I wear my normal 6 inch heels that'll be alot dragging.

Oh ok! Thank you. Someone had said it's best to take shoes but now I'm stuck because I have choose one or the other. So now I don't know what shoes I'll wear.

If you are just going to look at different dresses then you have a while to decide! Personally, I just wanted to wear something comfortable since no one sees the shoes!

Maybe you can look for block heels that won’t sink into the ground as much

Kelly is correct, you don’t need the shoes until your dress arrives (or when you order if you’re tall and considering extra length). If you’re trying on slim fitting dresses, you may want to try the dress on in heels (any heel) and barefoot so you can decide if the heels make any difference in how the dress looks on you. I feel that it does make a difference for me, so seeing the dress both ways would help me decide heels or no.

With the woodsy reception, you could choose a block heel or wedge. Or even change into a block heel or wedge once the ceremony and photos are complete. You’d just want it to be a similar height to your first shoe if you’ll be changing shoes.

I was going to say this. I’m getting married in the desert and I’m wearing heels. Block heels so I won’t really sink and so that they’re a bit more comfortable than stilettos.

Good idea! Thank you. We will be having a dance floor which I plan to be on majority of the time.

Yes! This is wonderful idea! The visual thing is big for me as well. Especially since I'm short I feel like something's look different when I'm "taller". Idk I get it tho. I'm comfortable in mainly 6inches or shorter so I'll make sure they are the same. Thank you!

Hey Cynthia! I'm also 5'2". I knew that I would need my dress shortened, so I actually ended up barefoot trying on dresses because they were ALL at LEAST 12" too long for me! Haha. When it's time to get my gown altered, I will be sure to wear my actual wedding shoes.

If you're set on heels, could you wear block heels or wedges?
