Let's hear it for the discount and secondhand dresses!

Jessica, on September 17, 2022 at 2:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 64
If you're like me, you grew up watching Say Yes to the Dress and expecting you'd be able to afford a $3,000 wedding dress.

And if you're like me, you'll have quickly realized post-engagement that a $3,000 wedding dress isn't really feasible. Oops.
I started my wedding dress journey by putting a max cap of $500 on whatever I bought. My fiance and I are paying for our entire wedding by ourselves, I'm still paying off student loans, and I'm currently paying for a master's program. Affordability is the key here.
I looked at so many secondhand dress sites, Etsy shops, and affordable dress sites like Azazie. I finally found the dress of my dreams through Cocomelody. It was a final sale, sample dress that they were no longer carrying. With a promo code and a prayer that the site was legitimate, I scooped the dress up for about $364.00.
So, let's hear it for those discount dresses, those secondhand dresses, and all the other affordable dresses out there that make us feel like queens, regardless of the price tag.
Did you put affordability as your priority when it came to dress shopping? If so, what did you get? Drop those pictures below!

I don’t have many good pictures to show the dress details, but I got this one 80% off at a sample sale. $300. Saved so much that I ended up buying another dress for our adventure shoot. That one was around $1000, but still a sample sale discount (pictured below). So, I ended up getting two dresses for under my original dress budget of $1500.

My dress is from Cocomelody! While I couldn’t do final sale (I have a weird body to size), my dress came in at about a third of my set dress budget and I absolutely adore this dress. I never believed in “say Yes to the Dress” but holy cow, this dress was screaming “THIS IS IT” to me.

One of my gowns was from Cocomelody. I worked with Ben in the showroom and he was awesome. Although after customizations by my alterations person it was an easy 3k anyways. 💙

Thank you. I REALLY wanted it to be just about 4" shorter, but the construction of the dress does not allow for it without totally ruining the shape of it. (I'm a seamstress, so I know these things) I do need to take it in at the bustline princess seams, as it bags a bit under the arms. But all in all I was thrilled with the construction and quality of the dress.

I had a budget for $500 for my wedding dress (but I went over by $150) because I knew I was on a budget for everything when it came to planning and what we wanted for our wedding. I ended up spending about $1000 for my dress, veil, sash for my dress and a head piece. Let's hear it for the discount and secondhand dresses! 6

Yes it is. Their showroom is wonderful and Benjamin is a star! I’m a discriminating buyer and he was so patient with me and hand selected my gown. Which is pictured on my profile as well as here.

Yosemite! We got married in 2020, so a Yosemite photo shoot after a 10 person wedding in a local park ended up being our Plan E. The pictures made the madness worth it.

Go for it! I believe the road is closed this year for renovations, but I think it’s back to being opened next year. Look up the Taft Point hike in Yosemite (and if you have yet to book a photographer and are willing to splurge a little, I HIGHLY recommend my photographers).
