let there be Food!

Ariel, on June 13, 2019 at 10:41 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

I am struggling with a section on my wedding day timeline. How long should i be giving my guests to eat their meals.

Here are the details. Its a buffet style dinner.

@ 5:10pm wedding party enters

@ 5:15pm couples first dance

@ 5:30pm the salad is served at the tables (each table has its own server) and the pastor blesses the meal

@ 5:45-5:50 the buffet is served

**** here is where im stuck. we have 120 people as of right now. how long should i give people to get up, go get their food, and then eat it before moving on into the toasts????

Thanks in advance Smiley shame Smiley heart

This is our reception timeline (already finalized with DOC), if it helps:

6:45 pm- Toasts (remember, these can be done while people are eating)

    7:00 pm- Cake Cutting

    7:15 pm- Special Surprise

    7:30 pm- Father/Daughter Dance & Mother/Son Dance

    8:00 pm- Dancing

9:00 pm- Bouquet & Garter Toss

    10:30 pm- Last Song

    10:45 pm- Sparkler Exit

    11:00 pm- Reception Ends

I agree the toasts can be done while people are eating but I'd give it at least half an hour before you start toasts maybe even longer

I would give at least 45 minutes before you start toasts. 20 minutes or so for people to get through the buffet line and get settled, then another 25 to finish the majority of their meals.

Since it is a buffet I'd give about an hour all together for dinner. If you decide to do speeches before dinner is over, I'd wait until the last table is seated and has had a chance to at least start eating. Hopefully by the time your speeches are done everyone will also be done with dinner and you can move on to your next thing.
